Valve Technician I

Hiring Range

The hiring range for this position is $23.50 to $25.50 per hour.  This is the pay scale range Caltrol reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of this posting. The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and may vary based on geographic region, skills, qualifications, and experience, along with the requirements of the position.

What You’ll Do

• Assist with the disassembly, inspection, repair, assembly, and testing of valves using manufacturer specifications, work orders, and customer requirements.
• Clean and prepare valve components using approved tools and equipment, including solvents, wire brushes, and sandblasting equipment.
• Support field service activities at customer sites, including valve removal, installation, packing replacement, flange bolting, and other maintenance tasks.
• Inspect components and assembled equipment to verify quality, accuracy, and compliance with customer and industry standards.
• Assist in the repair and maintenance of valves, actuators, and instrumentation in both shop and field environments.
• Transport valves, parts, and equipment to and from customer locations using company vehicles, including stake-bed trucks.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment and assist with the upkeep of shop tools and equipment.
• Follow all safety procedures and quality standards while working in shop and customer site environments.
• Develop the technical skills needed to troubleshoot, repair, test, and maintain control and isolation valves.

What You’ll Bring

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with customers, teammates, and cross-functional departments.
• Mechanical aptitude and a desire to learn valve repair, maintenance, and testing practices.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in both shop and field environments.
• Basic computer skills, including the ability to use email, enter data, and process work orders.
• Ability to safely operate and maintain tools and equipment used in valve and actuator repair, including hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, overhead cranes, and forklifts (training provided as applicable).
• Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to safety and quality.
• Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and occasional customer-driven schedules as needed.
• Valid California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record and the ability to operate company vehicles.
• Ability to meet customer and company requirements for background checks, site access, and drug screening programs.
• Ability to lift, carry, and work with industrial equipment in shop and customer site environments.

Safety-Sensitive Position Requirement

This is a safety-sensitive position. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a pre-employment drug screen, background check, and motor vehicle record review. This position is also subject to customer-required screenings and ongoing compliance requirements, which may include random drug testing

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This role involves both shop and field work in industrial environments. To perform this job successfully, you must be able to:

• Wear required PPE and comply with all safety requirements.
• Lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, and reach throughout the workday.
• Climb ladders and work around industrial equipment at customer sites.
• Work safely in indoor and outdoor environments with varying temperatures and conditions.
• Safely perform work around moving equipment, machinery, noise, and potential chemical exposures.

Travel:

Travel is required and may include overnight stays and multiple days at customer sites throughout Caltrol's service territory. Travel may be necessary to support field service work, planned outages, turnaround events, and customer maintenance projects.
