Van Driver (Part-time Only)

Job OverviewWe are seeking a dedicated and energetic School Van Drivers specializing in transporting students with special needs. In this vital role, you will ensure the safe, reliable, and compassionate transportation of children requiring additional support. Your positive attitude, excellent communication skills, and attention to safety will help create a secure environment for students during their daily commutes. Responsibilities

• Safely operate school vans and paratransit vehicles designated for students with special needs, adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations
• Assist students on and off the vehicle, providing support as needed to ensure their comfort and safety
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and caregivers when necessary
• Conduct routine vehicle inspections, ensuring mechanical functionality and cleanliness before and after each run
• Maintain accurate logs of student transportation records, including attendance and incident reports
• Follow behavior management protocols to address any student needs or concerns during transit
• Provide excellent customer service by creating a welcoming environment for students and their families

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
• Proven experience in working with children or adults with special needs is highly desirable
• Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for effective interaction with diverse families
• Knowledge of paratransit services, child safety protocols, and behavior management techniques
• Must remain calm under pressure
• Compassionate attitude with experience in childcare or senior care is advantageous
• Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and professionally while maintaining safety standards
• Must meet all background requirements & physical standards for school van drivers
