TITLE: VARSITY DANCE HEAD COACH

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Two or more years of coaching experience at varsity level or applicable other dance experience.
  • Knowledge of teaching skills in a safe environment.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Must have or obtain CPR/AED certification
  • Communicative with students - staff - parents.
  • Team player.
  • Ability to perform at a high energy level.
  • Flexible.
  • Detail oriented.

REPORTS TO: Dance coach reports directly to the Director of Athletics and High School Principal.

SUPERVISES: Student athletes in the dance program.

JOB GOAL:

  • Team development and retention of student athletes within the program.
  • The direction and leadership of the entire dance program for Fraser student-athletes grades 9 through 12.
  • Training and development of coaching staff at all levels.
  • Management of facilities and equipment inventories.
  • Establishing, directing, supervising and evaluating all aspects of the entire dance program at FHS.

ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership:

  • Shall, except in emergencies, attend all events and functions associated directly with their teams.
  • Establish a sense of direction for the student athletes while participating in the Dance program.
  • Support the line of communication with all coaches within the Dance program.
  • Promote and project leadership qualities for our student-athletes.
  • Is a role model of coaching for our staff, parents, community and students.
  • Contribute to the standards of all academic, athletic and extra-curricular programs.
  • Follows and adheres to and the Fraser Athletic Code of Conduct.
  • Attend the pre-season, post-season and year-end meeting the Athletic Director requires.
  • Turn in all forms that are needed by the Athletic Department in a timely manner.
  • Assist with fundraising activities of the FHS/RMS Athletic Booster Club.
  • Perform any other functions that the Athletic Director deems necessary.

Other Leadership Areas:

  • Direct the supervision/discipline of our athletes at practice, to and from contests, at other schools or locations.
  • Work closely with the Certified Athletic Trainer, especially in the areas of injury prevention, injury management, and emergency action plans.
  • Assist in the organization all practices and has written daily practice plans.
  • Regularly communicate with parents and staff.
  • Assist in the annual review of team rules and the enforcement of such rules.
  • Maintain team concept throughout the entire year.
  • Is a purveyor of exceptional sportsmanship and is reflected by the team.
  • Promptly turn in all forms as required by the athletic office.

Training and Development:

  • All staff members utilize the same "core" of team rules.
  • Each coach is responsible for rules of MHSAA, School Eligibility and common sense.
  • Establish the staff's dance terminology and methods of teaching when teaching specific dance skills.

Facility and Equipment Management:

  • Inventory, audit, record keeping, and distribution (as necessary) of all uniforms and equipment.
  • Organize and maintain the equipment room.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Through the sport season as determined by the Program Director/Administration.

EVALUATION: The position will be evaluated yearly by the Fraser Public Schools Athletic Director.
