Job Summary

Experienced Vascular Access Technician specializing in safe, accurate, and patient-centered vascular access procedures. Proficient in venipuncture, assisted line collections, blood culture collection, and specimen management while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, infection prevention protocols, and organizational policies. Demonstrates strong clinical judgment, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to provide high-quality patient care in fast-paced acute care and hospital settings.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and peripheral vascular access procedures using established clinical guidelines and best practices.
• Collect blood specimens through venipuncture, assisted line collections, and blood culture techniques while maintaining specimen integrity.
• Verify patient identity using approved identification protocols before all vascular access and specimen collection procedures.
• Ensure accurate specimen labeling, handling, transportation, and documentation in accordance with laboratory and regulatory requirements.
• Perform and document Point-of-Care (POC) testing as required, ensuring quality control and compliance with established procedures.
• Respond effectively to urgent patient care needs and support rapid response situations when vascular access services are required.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, laboratory personnel, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to facilitate timely patient diagnosis and treatment.
• Maintain accurate electronic documentation using laboratory and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
• Adhere to infection prevention, patient safety, and confidentiality standards, including HIPAA compliance.
• Provide compassionate patient education and excellent customer service while minimizing patient discomfort during vascular access procedures.
• Prioritize workload effectively in high-volume clinical environments while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
• Demonstrate sound clinical judgment, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills during routine and complex patient care situations.
• Assist with orientation, training, and competency development of new staff and students as assigned.
• Maintain a professional demeanor while working independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
