    Vascular Sonographer

    Position Type: Full-Time / Permanent
    Department: Diagnostic Imaging / Vascular Services

    Job Summary

    We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Vascular Sonographer to join our healthcare team. The Vascular Sonographer will be responsible for performing non-invasive vascular ultrasound examinations to evaluate blood flow, detect vascular abnormalities, and assist physicians in diagnosing and treating vascular conditions.

    The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of vascular anatomy, ultrasound technology, Doppler techniques, and diagnostic imaging procedures. This role requires excellent technical skills, attention to detail, patient-care abilities, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of image quality and safety.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Perform non-invasive vascular ultrasound examinations, including arterial and venous studies.

    • Conduct carotid duplex, peripheral arterial, peripheral venous, and abdominal vascular examinations.

    • Perform Doppler and duplex ultrasound studies to evaluate blood flow and identify vascular abnormalities.

    • Operate and maintain diagnostic ultrasound equipment according to established procedures.

    • Obtain high-quality diagnostic images and accurate measurements for physician interpretation.

    • Analyze ultrasound findings and recognize normal and abnormal vascular anatomy and blood-flow patterns.

    • Prepare patients for examinations and explain procedures to ensure patient comfort and cooperation.

    • Review patient medical history and relevant clinical information before performing examinations.

    • Assist physicians with diagnostic evaluation by providing accurate preliminary technical findings.

    • Maintain complete and accurate patient records and examination documentation.

    • Perform routine quality-control checks on ultrasound equipment.

    • Identify equipment issues and coordinate maintenance or repairs when required.

    • Follow infection-control, patient-safety, and departmental protocols.

    • Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA requirements.

    • Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, radiologists, vascular specialists, and other healthcare professionals.

    • Participate in continuing education and remain current with developments in vascular ultrasound technology and techniques.

    Required Qualifications

    • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Cardiovascular Technology, or a related field.

    • Minimum of 2 years of experience performing vascular ultrasound examinations.

    • Strong knowledge of vascular anatomy, physiology, and hemodynamics.

    • Experience performing arterial, venous, carotid, and peripheral vascular studies.

    • Proficiency with Doppler, color-flow imaging, and duplex ultrasound techniques.

    • Strong ability to recognize normal and abnormal vascular findings.

    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

    • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate documentation.

    • Excellent communication and patient-care skills.

    Preferred Certifications

    • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) certification through ARDMS preferred.

    • Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) certification through CCI may also be considered.

    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.

    Working Conditions

    The Vascular Sonographer will work primarily in a clinical, hospital, outpatient imaging, or vascular laboratory environment. The position may require prolonged standing, assisting with patient positioning, and moving ultrasound equipment.

    The candidate should be flexible regarding scheduling and may occasionally be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, or on-call shifts depending on departmental needs.
