Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Vascular Technologist, you are responsible for performing ultrasonic imaging and related procedures in all areas of ultrasound. You will operate ultrasound equipment to provide and document accurate and quality sonographic studies of normal and abnormal anatomy. You will perform ultrasound exams including Abdominal, OB, GYN, Small Parts, Prostates, and Vascular Scans. Demonstrates anatomy for interpretation and /or intervention by, or at the request of a licensed practitioner.

  • You will identify upper/lower extremity venous anatomy, extra cranial and intracranial anatomy, upper/lower extremity arterial anatomy and collateral venous pathways in presence of disease
  • You will perform upper/lower extremity Venous Duplex protocol for DVT or Venous Insufficiency, Carotid Duplex exam protocol, protocol for upper/lower extremity arterial flow exam
  • You will produce scans of optimal diagnostic quality on patients ranging from Neonatal to Geriatric
  • You will relay to Radiologist any relevant patient information
  • You will complete required documentation on forms, logs and in computer
  • You will label images and identify according to protocol.
  • You will obtain all pertinent patient history, and relay it to the Radiologist to assist in diagnosis or treatment
  • You will review written orders, assesses patient identification and ensures indicators are appropriate prior to procedure
  • You will clean exam tables and restock Ultrasound supplies as needed or used
  • You will sterilize trans-vaginal transducer according to established protocol
  • You will complete the charge processing for individual patient care items, drugs and exams

What qualifications you will need:

  • One year experience as a diagnostic medical sonographer
  • One year experience as a Radiologic Technologist - preferred
  • A single two-year allied health education program that is patient-care related OR Graduate of a program accredited by an agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), United States Department of Education (USDOE) or Canadian Medical Association (CMA), that specifically conducts programmatic accreditation for diagnostic medical sonography/diagnostic cardiac sonography/vascular technology
  • Associates degree or higher in related technological field - preferred
  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) credentials with American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
  • BLS Certification as per St. David’s Healthcare policy
  • Registered Technologist with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), post- primary certification in Sonography – preferred
  • Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist with the Texas Medical Board - preferred
