Job Title: Vehicle Mechanic Wage/Hour Status: Non Exempt

Reports to: Shop Supervisor Pay Grade: Auxiliary PG 9

Dept./School: Transportation Contract Days: 227

PrimaryPurpose:

Perform lubrication and preventive maintenance on district vehicles to ensure their safe and efficient operation.
Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements (P & S), or the ability to obtain one within one year of hire date.
  • State School Bus Driver Certification, or the ability to obtain certification within one year of hire date.
  • Good driving record.
  • Ability to pass Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination and pre-employment drug test.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
Special Knowledge Skills:
  • Knowledge of lubrication and preventive maintenance procedures for gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles.
  • Ability to perform routine vehicle maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, and filter replacements.
  • Ability to safely operate district vehicles, including school buses, in various weather and road conditions.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage bus riders effectively while driving.
Experience:
  • Experience in vehicle maintenance and repair preferred.
  • Experience driving a school bus or similar vehicle preferred.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  1. Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance tasks on district vehicles, including oil changes, lubrication, tire rotations, and filter replacements.
  2. Assist in carrying out responsibilities and duties associated with preventive maintenance in a safe and efficient manner.
  3. Safely operate school buses and other district vehicles as needed.
  4. Manage student behavior while operating a school bus.
  5. Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed.
  6. Report any vehicle defects or needed repairs to the Shop Supervisor promptly.
  7. Ensure compliance with all safety standards and regulations.
  8. Maintain cleanliness of work area and tools.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Shop Supervisor.
Working Conditions:
  • Occasional prolonged or irregular hours.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Exposure to various weather conditions.
  • Exposure to noise, dust, and fumes from vehicle maintenance operations.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent districtwide travel; occasional prolonged or irregular hours. Be Able to lift 75 lbs.
