Job Responsibilities:

Mission of the Position:

The student will work with the Mechatronics Systems Engineering group to support vehicle calibration, testing, and data analysis activities, while also contributing to system-level development. This team focuses on defining and optimizing control strategies to ensure vehicle performance meets desired outcomes on current and future production programs.

Team Summary:

The Mechatronics Systems Engineering group is responsible for vehicle-level system verification, calibration, and testing to support new product launches, current product enhancements, and future driveline innovations. In addition, the team defines and develops the mechatronic system-covering control algorithms and electrical architecture-for innovative and leading-edge driveline applications. They work closely with customer and internal requirements, as well as hardware component technologies, to deliver robust design solutions and maintain best practices for mechatronic system development and software control logic. The team also contributes to the development of test methods, procedures, and custom equipment for both vehicle and system-level validation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to design and development of eDrive architecture by understanding system requirements and subsystem requirements related to the inverter/ eMotor system from both external and internal sources.
  • Perform inverter/ eMotor system requirements analysis and support modeling to define the optimum inverter/ eMotor system design.
  • Carry out competitor analysis (benchmarking) of different inverter/ eMotor system solutions in the transportation market.
  • Expected Learning Outcomes:
    • Learn about Engineering principals and Magna culture and apply classroom knowledge to a practical, real life application.
    • Be an active contributor to the eDS group to advance the progress of Magna's electrified products.
    • Advance the knowledge of the automotive industry, specifically electrified powertrains, and driveline components.
  • Learn about the detailed design and development of inverter/ eMotor system technologies for eDrive applications.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Participate in vehicle and system-level testing using standardized methods and practices, including data acquisition and analysis.
  • Support the development, documentation, and verification of mechatronic system control software strategies through simulation, calibration, vehicle evaluation, and peer reviews.
  • Collect and analyze data from vehicles, test bench, dyno, and manufacturing environments; assist in root cause investigations and issue resolution.
  • Collaborate with the vehicle applications team to define and refine software control logic and calibration strategies.
  • Adhere to established quality management systems and follow all relevant policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure safe execution of tasks for self and others.
  • Contributes to the development of test methods, procedures, and custom equipment for validation activities.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Expected Learning Outcomes:
    • Working knowledge of data acquisition tools and techniques.
    • Exposure to simulation and analysis using MATLAB.
    • Understanding of electromechanical systems used in driveline applications.
