Job Summary and Qualifications The VRM Coding Manager is responsible for supporting the development and evolution of the overall strategy for the Company's Vendor Resource Management coding quality and operations. The VRM Manager manages, directs and coordinates VRM activities. Responsibilities include management of processes, personnel and vendors. The VRM Coding Manager is responsible for planning, assigning, and directing the VRM staff. This includes actively monitoring employee performance, providing recognition or implementing corrective actions as needed, addressing complaints, resolving issues, and effectively overseeing and managing vendor relationships. What you will do in this role: Provides direct managerial oversight to vendors, Coding Leads, Coordinators, and in management of inpatient and outpatient coding functions, quality, workflow, and overall work responsibilities Reviews and ensures proper coverage for team members when short-staffed Hosts weekly calls to discuss and prioritize tasks for the upcoming week. Ensures complete, accurate, timely and consistent coding, while adhering to published coding guidelines and Company policies Coaches and supports team members' development, addresses and resolves dysfunctional behavior and promotes teamwork. Provides discipline and counseling as needed to maintain a productive and cohesive team. Proactively manages (including corresponding communications and escalation paths) significant issues in coding, status of projects, barriers and successes Selects, evaluates, trains, and provides leadership and direction to reporting staff Responsible for ongoing review and improvement of processes and services to ensure continuous improvement Responsible for ensuring employee schedules sufficiently meet business and customer needs Facilitates problem solving and collaboration within functional area(s) Responsible for ensuring staff/vendor coding personnel compliance with documented and established workflow guidelines as it relates to completing and pending accounts in work queues/worklists Assists in identifying and implementing process improvements to decrease costs and improve service for applicable stakeholders and submitting system enhancement and Business Intelligence report requests accordingly Facilitates the resolution of IT issues as it relates to vendor workflow; submits break fix requests for any reports used by coding vendors or VRM team Monitors productivity and provides timely and consistent feedback to vendor and VRM staff Analyzes quality data to identify education opportunities; provides education suggestions to Parallon HIM corporate quality team when applicable Monitors vendor coders pended accounts in production as well as in HIM CPART review tool to ensure timely turnaround and proper holds per contract agreement Provides timely follow-up on customer escalations related to coding quality and coding process issues Monitors monthly quality scores by vendor and individual coder; recommending that vendor coding personnel be placed under Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) according to VRM Quality Control Plan, and requesting actions plans from the vendors accordingly Responds to customer requests for action plans to improve coding quality and operational process concerns. Monitors and trends computer assisted coding (CAC) reporting and metrics including but not limited to Precision and Recall (P&R) rates, autosuggested codes entry method and actionable edits resolution percentages, ensuring compliance with contract agreements Prepares coding accuracy and productivity reports for the VRM Assistant Director/VRM Directors as needed Participates in Parallon HIM coding process and quality improvement pilots/initiatives, coordinating vendor activities to support these efforts Participates in weekly rotation of on call coverage of IT&S issues and facilitates escalations as necessary Manages and assists in the Coding Pool Mailbox to ensure timely and accurate feedback to customers and vendor(s) Monitors and trends the vendor escalation log and provides insight to all stakeholders Promptly reports issues or trends to the appropriate member of the Parallon HIMCAB team, HSC Leadership team, or other appropriate party Maintains up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes impacting coding requirements and ensures VRM staff and vendors are appropriately educated on new standards Reviews all official data quality standards, coding guidelines, company policies and procedures, and clinical/medical resources to assure coding knowledge and skills remain current Ensures coder and VRM staff are in compliance with HCA/Parallon HIM educational requirements by monitoring education completion Coordinates work assignments to achieve operational goals Ensures safe, ergonomic, and confidentiality compliant practices are being followed within the work environment Back up leads when needed to host weekly and/or ad hoc vendor conference calls Prepares weekly agenda and provides minutes for weekly VRM leadership meetings Establishes and maintains good working relationships with the vendors Practices and adheres to the "Code of Conduct" philosophy and "Mission and Value Statement" Other duties as assigned Qualifications: Undergraduate degree required. Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
