Purpose Of Position

Position is responsible for the on-site custodial maintenance of the facilities at the Goodman-LeGrand Museum during their shift,giving tours, greeting guests, and assisting with administrative tasks, special events, and rentals.Attendants work independently under the direction of theGoodman-LeGrandCuratorand Tourism Facilities Manager.

Typical work schedules vary.Part-time employees are guaranteed19hours per week. Shifts may include evenings and holiday hours year-round. Work schedules are generally set with some additional hours available to assist with special events.

Essential Functions

  • Provide excellent customer service, responding to inquiries and resolving complaints fromvisitors in a prompt, effective, andcourteous manner.
  • Greet visitors, assistthecuratorwith giving brief overviews and full tours of the museum.
  • Maintain and record data from the visitor sign-in sheets.
  • Solicit and collect donations from visitors and sponsors, in addition to completing purchases for visitors in the gift shop and sending in corresponding financial reports, as needed.
  • Promote and assist with special event rentals and occasionally complete paperwork and take payments for rentals.
  • Provide support & guidance to visitors to ensure proper use of facilities/equipment per policies and procedures. Enforce these policies & procedures when needed.
  • Assist with the supervision of volunteers at the museum to ensure morale and task completion.
  • Represent the City of Tyler in a professional, appropriate manner always.
  • Opens, closes, and secures Goodman-LeGrand facilities during shifts.
  • Properly maintain museum facilities daily, including general cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning windows, polishing, and cleaning restrooms.
  • Gather and dispose of all trash and waste daily.
  • Assist with preparing for and planning special events and exhibits. Complete setup and teardown of items, including tables, chairs, and equipment, as assigned for events.
  • Observes safe working practices and maintains storage and commons areas in a safe and tidy condition.
  • Assist with compiling data for reports and completing research on the artifacts and history of the home.\
  • Perform grounds maintenance as required.
  • Maintain and organize equipment closets, report supply needs.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-service training programs, orientations, and evaluation sessions.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to stand and walk up to 6 hours daily; lift, carry, and push up to 50 lb. up to 6hours daily; occasionally pull up to 50 lb. twist, turn, crouch, kneel and sit 1-6 hours daily.
  • Must be able to balance while performing duties and must be able to climb a ladder.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED required. At least 1 year of experience performing general cleaning duties and/or customer service experience. A valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License with a clear driving record is required.
