WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

Under general supervision of the AWT Directors Office; provide updated status of the budget on a routine basis for the Vessel Section`s seagoing vessels. Responsible for the maintenance, repair and safety of equipment for the Division`s seagoing vessels within budgeted limits. Maritime advisement of the vessels. The Vessel Supervisor is responsible for inspecting and taking corrective action on vessel maintenance; certifying compliance with United States Coast Guard and department requirements; and managing fleetwide operations for the Department of Public Safety. The Vessel Supervisor plans, manages, and coordinates all activities relating to the operation, safety, and maintenance of a fleet of vessels engaged in law enforcement activities with the Department of Public Safety.

THE WORKING CONDITIONS YOU CAN EXPECT:
This position is in the DPS Headquarters Building, 5700 East Tudor Road, Anchorage, in an office with a view of the Chugach Mountains and ample parking. The hours can include the Alternate Work Week schedule option.  The daily environment consists of a team of task-driven individuals. Incumbents will work closely with team members to support the mission.
 
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Successful applicant should exemplify the following competencies:
  • Working knowledge of the operational and technical challenges involved in the administration of vessel maintenance and inspection to include large scale State procurements and project management   
  • Considerable knowledge of proper operation and maintenance of a variety of sea-going vessels
  • Considerable knowledge of the operation, maintenance and repair of a variety of marine engines.
  • Ability to gather data, facts, or information and draw logical conclusions as well as create understandable training materials
  • Ability to instruct, direct, evaluate, and motivate others while maintaining effective team working relationships.
