Some of what you'll be doing:
The Port of Seattle is committed to assisting military personnel departing active-duty service transition to civilian employment. The Veteran's Fellowship Program is designed to provide short term (6 months) employment that will assist veterans selected for the program in the following areas:
+ Identifying transferable skills
+ Exposure to a civilian work environment
+ Career assistance
+ Exposure to corporate business practices
+ Mentoring
+ Resume and interview assistance
As a Safety Assurance Specialist, you will ensure a safe and secure operation at SEA Airport by performing observations, evaluations, and reporting of compliance rules and regulations to help minimize liability and operational impacts to the Port of Seattle.
+ You will work with airline and ground service provider personnel to implement engagement strategies/solutions to improve safety performance.
+ You will ensure safety performance expectations are met while working with operators to provide opportunity for corrections.
+ You will assist with audits, confirm red tag conditions are corrected, deliver registration stickers, and other materials necessary for the success of the quality assurance program.
+ You will conduct outreach and build relationships with operators and management in the field regarding safe operating practices and compliance requirements.
+ You will coordinate with stakeholders to minimize and mitigate potential issues during snow operations and emergent issues.
Who you are:
+ A Veteran – You have a minimum of three (3) years of active duty or mobilized reserve duty service in a branch of the U.S. Military Service (which includes the United States Coast Guard). Documentation of an honorable discharge from active or reserve status must be presented as part of the application process. Veterans Fellowship applicants must be within twenty-four (24) months of discharge to apply for a fellowship unless they have not worked full-time since their discharge and/or have been a full-time student in a degree or certification program since their discharge.
+ Desired – You have some experience working with aviation ground operations, performing observations of routine activities and conducting trend analysis of operations.

+ Knowledgeable – You are familiar with airport topographical, facility, and operational procedures as well as airport policies, regulations, and procedures.

+ Technically Skilled – You have advanced technical skills in utilizing all Microsoft Office technologies.
What else you need to know:
+ Driver’s License – You will need a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites.
+ Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role.
+ Work Environment – You will generally work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. You may be exposed to areas of high noise, various hazardous materials, work at heights and/or in confined spaces.
+ Limited Duration – This is a limited duration position and is expected to last no longer than six months.
+ Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
+ Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you will/must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.
+ Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington State within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
