Position Summary
The Higher Education Institution Program Coordinator is responsible for one or more academic or social programs at an institution of higher education. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Veterans Benefits Coordinator at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) is a key role within the Veterans and Military Resource Center, designed to support student Veterans, currently serving military members, and their dependents in accessing and understanding VA education benefits. The coordinator's primary mission is to maximize the educational experience of the military-connected community by assisting student Veterans and dependents in understanding and accessing VA education benefits such as the Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33), Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) (Chapter 31), Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance (DEA) (Chapter 35), Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve (Chapter 1606), Federal Tuition Assistance, National Guard Tuition Waiver (NGTW), and the Arkansas Heroes Scholarship. The coordinator will also assist the Director with programs and events designed to assist the Veteran with transition from the military to the civilian world. Key responsibilities include:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the organization and administration of various higher education academic and social programs. Knowledge of campus and community resources. Knowledge of state, federal, and campus rules, regulations, and requirements related to campus academic and social programs. Ability to coordinate the activities of campus academic and/or social programs. Ability to evaluate collected information and formulate into recommendations. Ability to compile information into report form.
Skills Considered Essential for Success
Required Education and/or Experience
Applicant must be a Veteran. High school education is required. Two years of experience in program administration or related area. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
Preferred Education and/or Experience
Former military leadership role is a plus. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or senior military leader professional development training is preferred . Previous experience working in a veterans resource center or similar setting. Familiarity with student information systems and the VA Enrollment Manager System. Additional certifications related to veterans' services or higher education administration.
