The LA County Board of Supervisors recently declared a local state of emergency for homelessness, and the County is working to revise and expand our response to help all who are affected. We are looking for qualified and passionate individuals to help us in the mission of addressing issues like housing, mental health, and substance use. The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Veterans Services Representative II vacancies related to the homelessness crisis.
Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.
Before the end of your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.
Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Veterans Services Representative II.
DEFINITION
Provides guidance and assistance to veterans and their beneficiaries in securing rights and benefits under federal, state, or local legislation; and assists in the preparation and filing of claims for benefits.
CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS
Positions allocable to this journey level class report to the Veterans Services Supervisor and receive technical direction from a Veterans Services Representative III. Positions in this class perform the full scope of activities and tasks necessary in assisting veterans and/or their beneficiaries and are assigned full responsibility for processing applications and claims. Incumbents must exercise knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to veterans. Incumbents in these positions must also have knowledge of the organization and procedures of the Veterans Administration and the State Department of Veterans Affairs; terminology used in legislation, regulations, and claims presentation; community resources available to veterans and their beneficiaries; and the principal sources of information important in completing veterans claims.

A valid California Class C Driver License is required.
