    Job Description

Ready to Be That Person for Someone's Hardest Day?

If you're a compassionate communicator who wants to grow your skills in a fast-paced, collaborative environment — one where you'll make a real difference for clients navigating the unknown — we'd love to meet you.

VCA Veterinary Referral & Emergency Center is seeking a compassionate, communicative Veterinary Technician or Assistant to join our Emergency Department as an ER Liaison — a role built for someone who thrives on connection as much as clinical care.

    Schedule: Full time: 4 x 10-hour shifts, Wednesday–Saturday

Pay: $22 – $25 / hr based on skill set, and experience

Since 1997, we've served Fairfield County and the surrounding communities with state-of-the-art specialty and emergency veterinary care, working hand-in-hand with primary care veterinarians to give every patient the best possible outcome. Open 24/7, 365 days a year, we're here for pets and their people at the moments that matter most — and the Liaison role is at the heart of how we make those moments feel supported instead of overwhelming.

    What Is a Liaison?

Think of the Liaison as the thread that ties everything together — the person who makes sure no one, not the client, not the primary vet, not the emergency team, is ever left wondering what's happening or what comes next.

    In this role, you'll:

    • Bridge communication between the emergency doctor, the client, and the patient's primary care veterinarian
    • Set clear expectations for what a patient's stay will look like, from presentation through discharge
    • Keep clients informed at every step, while staying connected with front desk, technicians, doctors, and specialists
    • Field and route incoming calls, serving as a steady point of contact for both pet owners and referring vets
    • Deliver progress updates, help fill prescriptions, and support clients visiting their hospitalized pets
    • Maintain accurate medical records, reports, and correspondence logs
    • Walk families through some of their hardest moments — guiding them through the euthanasia process and finalizing after-life care with care and clarity

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a veterinary practice
    • Solid medical knowledge and comfort discussing clinical situations directly with clients (confirming CPR/DNR status, walking through treatment options, etc.)
    • Excellent verbal communication skills — you can translate medical and financial information clearly for anxious or overwhelmed clients
    • Strong phone and computer skills, including comfort with medical records and practice management software
    • Ability to stay organized and composed in a fast-paced, high-emotion environment
    • Genuine compassion for both patients and the people who love them
    • Availability to work the posted schedule, including weekends
    • Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant background preferred; credentialed technicians (CVT/LVT/RVT) welcome to apply
