Description

VCA Animal Specialty Group in Los Angeles is looking for an experienced Emergency Veterinary Assistant

Location: 4641 Colorado Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90039

Schedule: Full-Time, 8 pm - 6:30 am

Salary: $28 - $35 per hour, +/- Shift differentials for eligible shifts

ER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assess patients as they come in through ER
  • Anesthesia induction (if licensed), monitoring, and recovery
  • Venipuncture & u/s guided cystocentesis
  • Catheter placement, including central lines
  • Perform all aspects of CPR (intubation/ventilation, compressions, administer medications, documentation, etc.)
  • Proficiency in placing and monitoring NG tubes and nasal cannulas
  • Take various radiographs
  • Assist Drs with exams and assessments
  • In-house and outside lab sample preparation
  • Fill pharmaceuticals
  • Client communication (assessments, updates, estimates, discharges, etc.)

ICU RESPONSIBILITIES:

In addition to the above ER responsibilities, ICU responsibilities include

  • Manage critical patients and their treatment sheets
  • Calculate and administer CRIs (analgesics and/or pressors, i.e. Fentanyl, Norepinephrine, Propofol, etc.)
  • Knowledge of transfusions and blood products
  • Cross-match and blood type patients
  • Knowledge and management of chest tubes, JP drains, urinary catheters, telemetry, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE EMERGENCY TECHNICIAN POSITION:

  • Ability to work independently
  • Self-motivated and take initiative
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to manage heavy caseloads
  • Maintain the highest standard of patient care
  • Ability to see the "big picture" when managing critical patients
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate shift coverage and on calls
  • Excellent communication skills with Drs, staff and clients
  • Working knowledge of computers/iPads
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Be willing to learn new skills and techniques
  • Train new hires, TAs, and Technician students
