Full-Time | Starting Pay: $30.00 - $45.00 per hour

Schedule: Monday–Friday, generally 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

About the Position

California Healing Arts College (CHAC) is hiring a Veterinary Assistant Program Director to lead our Veterinary Assistant program at our Carson, California campus.

This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced educator and veterinary professional who wants to shape student outcomes, support instructors, and help build a high-quality training program. In this role, you will teach students, oversee day-to-day program operations, support faculty development, drive retention, coordinate externships, and strengthen employer partnerships that lead to graduate employment.

Job Responsibilities

We are looking for someone who is organized, accountable, student-focused, and passionate about preparing students for careers in veterinary assisting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day academic operations of the Veterinary Assistant program
  • Teach students through hands-on laboratory and clinical-skills instruction
  • Deliver synchronous online lectures and support asynchronous learning through the LMS
  • Maintain high instructional quality across curriculum, lesson plans, assignments, and assessments
  • Monitor attendance, grades, participation, student progress, and retention
  • Identify at-risk students early and provide intervention, tutoring, remediation, and support
  • Train, onboard, mentor, and evaluate Veterinary Assistant instructors
  • Coach faculty on instructional quality, grading, attendance reporting, LMS activity, and student engagement
  • Coordinate student externship placement, monitoring, and completion
  • Build relationships with veterinary clinics, hospitals, shelters, animal-care organizations, and other employer partners
  • Support graduate employment outcomes in partnership with Career Services
  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and compliance with institutional, accreditation, regulatory, and safety requirements
  • Participate in program reviews, accreditation activities, open houses, orientations, and employer outreach events
  • Provide support to additional CHAC campuses as needed

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Professional experience in veterinary medicine, veterinary technology, veterinary assisting, animal health, or a closely related field
  • Strong knowledge of veterinary assisting procedures, animal handling, veterinary terminology, clinical practices, and safety standards
  • Experience providing hands-on instruction, training, or coaching
  • Ability to teach effectively in person and in online learning environments
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, and time-management skills
  • Ability to support both students and instructors in a fast-paced academic environment
  • Experience maintaining accurate records and documentation
  • Ability to travel between campus locations when needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) credential, education, or related experience
  • Experience working in a veterinary hospital, clinic, shelter, or clinical animal-care setting
  • Teaching experience in veterinary assisting or veterinary technology
  • Experience as a Program Director, Lead Instructor, Department Chair, Academic Manager, or similar leadership role
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, or evaluating instructors
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems and online education
  • Experience coordinating externships, employer outreach, or graduate placement
  • Experience in a career college, vocational school, or regulated postsecondary education environment
  • Familiarity with accreditation, compliance, retention, and placement outcomes
