Veterinary Assistant | $22-$29/hr | $750 Sign-On Bonus Available

Location: Alpharetta, GA
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday-Thursday | 7:00 AM-5:00 PM | Occasional Extended Hours as Needed

Alpharetta Veterinary Specialty + Emergency (AVSE) is seeking a full-time Veterinary Assistant to join our Surgery team in Alpharetta, GA. This role is ideal for an experienced Veterinary Assistant who enjoys a fast-paced surgical environment, advanced patient care, and working alongside a collaborative team dedicated to exceptional outcomes.

Responsibilities

As a Veterinary Assistant on the Surgery team, you will support advanced surgical care while working closely with veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians, and hospital support teams.

Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare surgical patients by obtaining vitals, assisting with restraint, blood collection, and IV catheter placement

  • Assist with surgery preparation, including patient shaving and aseptic preparation of surgical sites

  • Set up operating rooms for surgical procedures and maintain appropriate surgical standards

  • Safely transport sedated and anesthetized patients to and from the operating room

  • Support anesthesia recovery and provide patient monitoring as directed by the medical team

  • Maintain sterile fields and assist with operating room daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance

  • Perform in-house laboratory testing and diagnostic procedures

  • Complete instrument cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance procedures

  • Assist with advanced imaging procedures including X-ray, ultrasound, and CT

  • Support radiograph positioning for orthopedic procedures, chest radiographs, chest tube placements, and urethral catheterization

  • Prepare prescriptions and communicate discharge instructions clearly and compassionately to clients

  • Provide exceptional client service from check-in through discharge

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient surgical department

  • Collaborate with veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians, and team members to provide outstanding patient care

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician experience required

  • Experience with patient care, restraint, and basic veterinary procedures

  • Interest in developing advanced skills within a surgical specialty environment

  • Experience with surgical preparation, anesthesia support, or advanced diagnostics preferred

  • Ability to work around anesthetic gases, chemicals, and zoonotic diseases

  • Ability to safely lift and move patients and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Ability to remain organized and efficient in a fast-paced surgical environment

  • Reliable, dependable, and detail-oriented with a commitment to excellent patient care

  • Flexibility to support occasional schedule adjustments based on hospital needs

  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required
