Alpharetta Veterinary Specialty + Emergency (AVSE) is seeking a full-time Veterinary Assistant to join our Surgery team in Alpharetta, GA. Responsibilities
As a Veterinary Assistant on the Surgery team, you will support advanced surgical care while working closely with veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians, and hospital support teams.
Responsibilities include:
Prepare surgical patients by obtaining vitals, assisting with restraint, blood collection, and IV catheter placement
Assist with surgery preparation, including patient shaving and aseptic preparation of surgical sites
Set up operating rooms for surgical procedures and maintain appropriate surgical standards
Safely transport sedated and anesthetized patients to and from the operating room
Support anesthesia recovery and provide patient monitoring as directed by the medical team
Maintain sterile fields and assist with operating room daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance
Perform in-house laboratory testing and diagnostic procedures
Complete instrument cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance procedures
Assist with advanced imaging procedures including X-ray, ultrasound, and CT
Support radiograph positioning for orthopedic procedures, chest radiographs, chest tube placements, and urethral catheterization
Prepare prescriptions and communicate discharge instructions clearly and compassionately to clients
Provide exceptional client service from check-in through discharge
Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient surgical department
Collaborate with veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians, and team members to provide outstanding patient care
Qualifications
Minimum of 3 years of Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician experience required
Experience with patient care, restraint, and basic veterinary procedures
Interest in developing advanced skills within a surgical specialty environment
Experience with surgical preparation, anesthesia support, or advanced diagnostics preferred
Ability to work around anesthetic gases, chemicals, and zoonotic diseases
Ability to safely lift and move patients and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to remain organized and efficient in a fast-paced surgical environment
Reliable, dependable, and detail-oriented with a commitment to excellent patient care
Flexibility to support occasional schedule adjustments based on hospital needs
Fluent English speaking and reading skills required
