Provide veterinary medical care to University animals used in research, teaching, and education under the direction of the University Attending Veterinarian or designee. Document care via medical records. Technical service includes stocking supplies, sample collection, sanitization, etc. Assists in training of staff. Other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, performing routine husbandry of a wide variety of laboratory animal species.
Veterinary Assistant - High school/GED with two years’ experience.
Veterinary Technician I - Registered Veterinary Technician or completed associate degree in veterinary technology and will sit for the Oklahoma State Board of Examiner's technician certifying exam and obtain licensure within 120 days of hire.
Veterinary Technician II - Three years' experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice.
Veterinary Technician III - Six years' experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice.
Senior Veterinary Technician - Eight years' experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice with greater than one year experience within a specific specialty.
Veterinary Technician Specialist I - Registered Veterinary Technician. Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA; or have credentials in specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition.
Veterinary Technician Specialist II - Must meet all requirements of Veterinary Technician Specialist I. Five years of experience as Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA; or have credentials in specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition.
Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:
Valid driver's license
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:
Ability to pass respirator fit testing. Ability to meet physical requirements for lifting 50 lbs. and for working with large animals species, small animal species, and research and exotic animals. Excellent communication and documentation skills, both written and verbal. Proficient with basic computer software programs including the ability to communicate via email and to perform simple word processing and populate simple spreadsheets.
Veterinary Technology
Previous experience working with laboratory animals in an AAALAC Accredited program. Certification by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science as a Laboratory Animal Technologist, a Laboratory Animal Technician, or an Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician.
Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:
Registered Veterinary Technician Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by the Academy of Laboratory Animal Veterinary Technicians and Nurses; or have credentials in specialty that Animal Resources defines at meriting recognition.
