Veterinary Assistant - District Vet Brookland

Location:

3748 10th St. NE

Washington, DC 20017

Schedule: Part-Time (30 hours/week)

Three 10-hour shifts per week

District Vet Brookland is seeking a compassionate and motivated Veterinary Assistant to join our AAHA-accredited hospital. If you're looking for a collaborative environment where you'll continue learning, rotate through different areas of the hospital, and work alongside a supportive team that enjoys what they do, we'd love to meet you.

What You'll Do

  • Assist veterinarians and technicians with patient care.
  • Safely restrain dogs and cats for examinations and procedures.
  • Collect blood samples.
  • Prepare exam rooms and patients.
  • Administer core vaccine appointments under supervision as appropriate.
  • Assist with laboratory diagnostics and pharmacy duties.
  • Support surgery, inpatient care, and client communication.
  • Rotate through multiple hospital roles based on your skills and interests, including:
  • Room Technician
  • Float Technician
  • Surgery Technician
  • Laboratory
  • Pharmacy
  • Intake/Drop-Off Coordinator

What We're Looking For

  • Experience working as a Veterinary Assistant.
  • Knowledge of core canine and feline vaccines.
  • Ability to safely restrain dogs and cats.
  • Blood draw experience preferred.
  • Positive attitude and strong communication skills.
  • Passion for learning and professional growth.
  • Team-oriented mindset.

  • Thursday: 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM
  • Friday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM
  • Saturday: 8:30 AM - 2:00 PM
  • Sunday: Closed

  • Provide Essential Patient Care: You'll be a key player in the health of our patients, assisting the medical team with hands-on care and ensuring every animal is treated with compassion and respect.

What You'll Bring to the Team

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • A calm and efficient approach, with the ability to handle a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment with composure.
  • Confidence and skill in handling pets of all sizes and temperaments.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in fundamental veterinary skills ranging from laboratory and pharmacy to nursing and radiology is a strong asset.
