THIS IS A LIMITED TERM CAREER POSITION THAT SERVES AS A FELLOWSHIP FOR SKILL BUILDING, LEARNING AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT

Based on our internal equity review process, the starting salary for this position will be $82,798.13 yearly. (Full salary range is $82,798.13- $113,350.12 annually)

\t\t\t\t\tPosition Information

\t\t\t\t\tProvide veterinary care for all animals at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium and Northwest Trek Wildlife Park to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the animal collection.

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

Essential Duties

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

\t\t\t\t\t\t

  • Participate in delivering comprehensive medical care for animals housed at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium and Northwest Trek Wildlife Park, under the supervision and guidance of the veterinary staff at each facility.

\t\t\t\t\t\t

  • Engage in all aspects of clinical practice, including daily rounds, medical record documentation, review of relevant journal articles, and routine communication with animal care teams regarding active cases and upcoming procedures.

\t\t\t\t\t\t

  • Contribute to emergency and weekend on-call coverage for the Veterinary Department.

\t\t\t\t\t\t

  • Provide staff education, including at least one zoo-wide presentation on a topic relevant to the animal collection.

\t\t\t\t\t\t

  • Prepare and submit at least one manuscript for publication upon completion of the fellowship.

\t\t\t\t\t\t

  • Provide training and mentorship of veterinary students and veterinary technician interns.

\t\t\t\t\t\t

  • Participate in providing veterinary care for approximately 50 red wolves housed at an off-site breeding facility.

\t\t\t\t\t\t

  • Operate a motorized vehicle to travel to multiple locations to carry out essential duties. Adhere to all driving laws and safety rules.

\t\t\t\t\t

\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

Experience Required

\t\t\t\t\t

1-year post-doctoral clinical experience and demonstrate a strong interest in zoological medicine. \t\t\t\t\tDoctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) or equivalent degree required. \t\t\t\t\tMust be able to obtain veterinary licensure in Washington State.
