The Role
Full-time, hospital-based leadership across an assigned pod of practices. The Area Chief of Staff blends clinical excellence with people leadership and operations oversight.
- Lead, mentor, and develop associate veterinarians to deliver safe, effective, patient-centered care
- Provide clinical services as a working manager, balancing leadership responsibilities with time on the floor
- Partner with practice leadership to drive hospital performance, service quality, and team engagement
- Oversee onboarding and coaching programs for new veterinarians; tailor experiential learning in surgery, dentistry, and medical case management
- Validate medical quality through medical record reviews, case audits, and patient safety event follow-up
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including controlled substances management and radiation safety
- Serve as responsible veterinarian for required hospital and pharmacy permits, as applicable
- Support recruitment efforts, build a strong veterinary talent bench, and implement succession planning
- Manage medical equipment needs and maintenance in partnership with regional leadership
- Champion access to care and client experience; address escalated medical concerns professionally and promptly

Requirements
- DVM or VMD degree from an accredited institution
- Active North Carolina veterinary license (or eligibility to obtain promptly)
- Eligible to work in the United States
- DEA license (or eligibility to obtain)
- Proven proficiency in general surgery and dentistry
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities with experience coaching and developing veterinarians
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills; comfort with medical software
- Willingness to work a full-time, hospital-based schedule and travel locally between assigned practices as needed
