Job Description

Lead and inspire veterinary teams as an Area Chief of Staff in Newport News, VA, with compensation up to $196,000. This full-time leadership role blends hands-on clinical practice with multi-site medical leadership.

The Hospital
- Busy, well-established small-animal clinic situated within a major retail setting, offering a steady client flow and convenient parking
- Supportive, team-based culture with veterinarians, licensed/registered veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, shift leads, and client service coordinators
- Broad general practice services: preventive and wellness care, vaccinations, dental cleanings with dental imaging, routine soft-tissue surgery including spay/neuter, microchipping, and compassionate end-of-life care
- On-site diagnostics for quick decisions: digital radiology and in-house lab testing
- In-house pharmacy and online prescription fulfillment for client convenience
- Predictable daytime and early evening hours, including Saturdays, to support balanced scheduling and consistent caseload
- Emphasis on mentorship, coaching, and clear role pathways for clinical growth

The Role
- Provide medical leadership across assigned local hospitals, fostering a collaborative, inclusive culture and consistent standards of care
- Coach, mentor, and develop associate veterinarians; oversee onboarding and skills growth in clinical, surgical, and dental areas
- Conduct medical record reviews, quality assessments, and patient safety reviews; ensure adherence to clinical protocols and regulatory requirements
- Partner with practice management to drive operational goals and client experience outcomes
- Support recruitment efforts and deliver strong hospital experiences for candidates and students
- Serve as the responsible veterinarian for regulatory permits as applicable; ensure compliant controlled substance management
- Maintain an active clinical schedule, balancing leadership with hands-on patient care
- Oversee medical equipment needs and partner on procurement and maintenance plans
- Lead client communication standards, including timely resolution of medical concerns

Requirements
- DVM or VMD degree from an accredited institution
- Active Virginia veterinary license (or eligibility to obtain)
- DEA registration (or eligibility to obtain)
- Eligibility to work in the United States
- Proven clinical competence in general practice, including routine surgery and dentistry
- Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to coach veterinarians and support teams
- Strong communication skills and commitment to high-quality, preventive-focused care
- Ability to work some Saturdays and travel locally between assigned hospitals as needed
