Veterinary Technician

Careerscape is recruiting on behalf of our client, a full-service animal hospital in New York, NY for an experienced Veterinary Technician to join their care team. This is a hands-on role supporting veterinarians across exams, diagnostics, and surgical procedures in a busy, well-equipped practice that treats a wide range of companion animal patients.

Day to day, you will move between exam rooms, the treatment area, and surgery, prepping patients, running diagnostics, and monitoring anesthesia while keeping pet parents informed and at ease. Technicians who thrive here are calm under pressure, detail-oriented with charting and drug protocols, and genuinely love working with animals and the people who bring them in.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians during physical exams, procedures, and surgeries
• Prepare patients for surgery including clipping, scrubbing, and positioning
• Monitor anesthesia and vital signs during surgical and dental procedures
• Collect samples and perform in-house diagnostics such as bloodwork and urinalysis
• Operate and maintain radiology and laboratory equipment
• Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed
• Place IV catheters and manage fluid therapy
• Maintain accurate patient records and treatment charts
• Educate pet owners on post-procedure care and home treatment plans
• Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked treatment area

Requirements

• Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, or RVT) or equivalent hands-on experience
• 2 or more years of experience in a veterinary clinical setting
• Proficiency with anesthesia monitoring and surgical assisting
• Experience with in-house diagnostic equipment and lab work
• Strong animal restraint and handling skills across species and temperaments
• Comfortable placing catheters and drawing blood
• Clear communicator with clients and the care team
• Ability to stay composed in fast-paced or emergency situations
• Willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends, or holiday shifts
