Veterinary Technician – MASH Mobile Surgery Team

Full-Time | Required Travel | Weekend Availability Required

Job Summary

The MASH Veterinary Technician supports high‑volume spay/neuter (HQHVSN) and community wellness services through our mobile clinic program. This role provides hands‑on surgical, anesthesia, and patient care support while helping maintain efficient, safe, and compassionate mobile clinic operations. Techs on the MASH team must be comfortable traveling regularly, working early mornings, and participating in weekend clinics as part of our community outreach mission.

 

Key Responsibilities

 Surgical & Medical Support

  • Assist veterinarians with high‑volume spay/neuter surgeries.

  • Induce, monitor, and recover patients under anesthesia following HQHVSN protocols.

  • Perform pre‑operative exams, administer medications, and prepare animals for surgery.

  • Maintain accurate medical records, anesthesia logs, and controlled drug documentation.

  • Provide post‑operative care instructions to clients.

 Mobile Clinic Operations

  • Travel to mobile clinic locations as scheduled (travel is required).

  • Assist with setup and breakdown of mobile surgery units and vaccine clinic stations.

  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe medical environments in mobile and outdoor settings.

  • Support patient flow from intake to discharge to ensure efficient daily operations.

  • Assist with loading/unloading equipment and securing animals safely during transport.

 Vaccine & Wellness Clinic Duties

  • Administer vaccines, microchips, preventatives, and basic treatments as directed.

  • Educate clients on preventive care and post‑surgical instructions.

  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and documentation of vaccines and medical supplies.

 Inventory & Equipment Management

  • Restock medical supplies, surgical packs, and consumables.

  • Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of instruments and equipment.

  • Report equipment issues and assist with routine maintenance of mobile units.

 Safety & Compliance

  • Follow OSHA, state veterinary board, and internal medical protocols.

  • Practice safe animal handling for animals of all sizes and temperaments.

  • Participate in quality control, safety checks, and protocol adherence.

 Client & Community Interaction

  • Provide compassionate, clear communication to clients in diverse community settings.

  • Assist with check‑in, paperwork, payments, and client questions.

  • Represent the organization professionally during outreach and partner events.

 

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience as a veterinary technician, assistant, or similar clinical role.

  • Ability to safely handle animals in a high‑volume environment.

  • Strong teamwork, communication, and problem‑solving skills.

  • Comfort working in mobile, outdoor, and fast‑paced settings.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly with the mobile team.

  • Weekend availability (required).

Preferred

  • HQHVSN experience.

  • Experience working in mobile or field‑based veterinary programs.

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English).

  • Ability to operate or assist with large vehicles/mobile units.

 

Work Schedule

Full‑time with required travel, early mornings, and regular weekend shifts as part of mobile clinic operations.
