Veterinary Technician

Privately owned small animal hospital in Old Saybrook, CT is seeking an experienced veterinary technician or veterinary assistant to join our team.

\n

Surgical/anesthesia experience is a plus.

\n

This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

\n

Full or part time.

\n

Responsibilities

\n

• \n
• Assist veterinarians during examinations and procedures, ensuring the comfort and safety of animals.
• \n
• Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
• \n
• Administer medications and vaccines as directed by the veterinarian.
• \n
• Perform laboratory tests, including urinalysis and cytology.
• \n
• Venipuncture.
• \n
• Maintain accurate medical records and update patient files.
• \n
• Educate pet owners on proper pet care and nutrition.
• \n
• Assist in anesthesia, surgery and monitoring animals during recovery, if qualified.
• \n
• Assist with answering phones, scheduling appointments and other desk duties.
• \n

Qualifications

• \n
• Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician is required.
• \n
• Familiarity with veterinary terminology and procedures.
• \n
• Familiarity with restraint and handling of dogs and cats.
• \n
• Experience with blood collection, laboratory equipment and radiology.
• \n
• Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
• \n
• Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with pet owners and team members.
