Job Description

Over the past decade, the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) has grown substantially by continually adapting its business model and expanding programs and services to meet the changing needs of physicians, scientists, and healthcare professionals in the interventional cardiology community. As Vice President of Accounting and Finance, you will serve as SCAI’s lead financial executive, overseeing a high-volume accounting operation and translating financial data into guidance that supports organizational decision-making and future revenue opportunities.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and supervising a two-person team, you will manage a $15MM operating budget and lead all aspects of financial operations for the Society’s 501(c)(3), 501(c)(6), and PAC entities. This includes maintaining sound accounting procedures and strong internal controls; leading the monthly close and annual audit; overseeing grant activity and restricted funds; preparing financial reports, budgets, and forecasts; and managing cash flow and investments. While SCAI’s processes currently work well, you will also identify opportunities to further streamline workflows and better integrate systems.

This role requires the ability to work in a dynamic environment, develop a thorough understanding of SCAI’s extensive programs and revenue streams, and independently identify and investigate trends and inconsistencies to ensure the integrity of the Society’s financial information.

  • Preserving the high level of trust in the finance team by ensuring financial reporting remains accurate and timely.
  • Providing stability through the finance leadership transition by keeping accounting operations and processes running without disruption.
  • Maintaining precise coding, allocation, reconciliation, and tracking across grants, restricted funds, programs, events, and other complex financial activities.
  • Making the budget easier to understand at the program level with narratives that clearly explain what is driving revenues, expenses, and variances.

 

Work Environment, Salary, and Benefits

  • This is a remote-first role aligned to East Coast hours. Some early morning or evening Zoom meetings may be required to accommodate event schedules or external stakeholders. Domestic travel is expected for on-site support at events and in-person staff retreats throughout the year.

Responsibilities

Finance

  • Direct the monthly and annual close process, ensuring timely completion of entries, accruals, reconciliations, and finalized financial reports for the c3, c6 and PAC.
  • Produce and evaluate quarterly financial statements and supporting documentation, identifying trends and explaining variances to organizational leadership.
  • Oversee general ledger integrity by reviewing transactions, approving balance sheet reconciliations, and addressing discrepancies promptly.
  • Maintain and strengthen accounting procedures and internal control practices to promote accuracy, accountability, and compliance.
  • Direct the annual budget development, twice-yearly forecasting, cash planning, and financial analysis for programs and strategic initiatives.
  • Review grant activity, including restricted fund tracking, budget oversight, reimbursements, and billing support.
  • Lead audit preparation efforts by organizing schedules, workpapers, and supporting records while serving as a key contact for external auditors and oversight agencies and ensuring timely completion of audit processes.
  • Supervise and develop two accounting team members to ensure they are equipped to maintain high standards of performance, review work quality, and collaborate across departments to support operational and financial goals.
  • Oversee payroll and disbursement processes while maintaining robust internal controls over financial activities.
  • Manage investment activities and cash flow in line with board-approved policies, ensuring efficient fund collection and disbursement.
  • Prepare detailed financial reporting for the Board of Trustees, senior leadership, and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in collaborative initiatives with membership to make recommendations to membership dues structure and accounting of membership data.
  • Participate in planning for all activities that generate revenues for SCAI.
  • Serve as the liaison to the Finance Committee to review financial statements, investment statements, budgets, and audit processes and recommendations.
  • Assure timely filing of all corporate, tax, and legal documents.
  • Maintain relationships with banking and investment institutions.
  • Review all payroll reports & sign off for review and approval.
  • Track future contractual financial obligations to ensure timely payments.

Education & Programs

  • Support all departments in reviewing grants, co-providership and other agreements to ensure reporting is accurate and complete and monies are received and reconciled.
  • Work with the meetings department to ensure all registration, housing, exhibitor, and sponsorship systems and reporting coordinate with accounting for accuracy and optimal support.
  • Work with meetings department to develop management reports and budgeting reports in a timely manner, including closing meeting reports within 90 days.
  • Fill out all paperwork creating credit card merchant accounts and bank account paperwork.
  • Work with the membership department to ensure all AMS and membership support systems coordinate with accounting for optimal support and reporting.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field and 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including five years leading accounting operations and staff. Nonprofit, association, or healthcare experience is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with monthly close, annual audits, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Experience with grant accounting, restricted funds, and complex coding or allocation structures.
  • Ability to communicate financial information effectively to senior leaders and non-financial stakeholders; experience partnering with a treasurer, finance committee, or board is preferred.
  • Proficiency with financial accounting systems and advanced Excel skills; experience with Sage Intacct and association management systems is preferred.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently in a dynamic environment.
