Piper Companies is seeking a Vice President, Head of Medical to lead and scale the Medical function for a growing, mid-sized Clinical Research Organization. The Vice President, Head of Medical will report to the Chief Medical Officer and play a key role in medical strategy, operational execution, client engagement, and financial performance. The Vice President, Head of Medical is a remote opportunity with travel required.
Responsibilities of the Vice President, Head of Medical:
- Partner with the CMO to define and execute Medical strategy aligned with company growth.
- Build, lead, and scale high-performing Medical teams across therapeutic areas.
- Own the Medical function P&L, including forecasting, budgeting, and margin optimization.
- Provide senior-level medical oversight across clinical programs and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Serve as a senior client-facing leader supporting business development and long-term partnerships.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Clinical Operations, Regulatory, Biostatistics, and Commercial teams.
Requirements of the Vice President, Head of Medical:
- MD, DO, or equivalent advanced medical/scientific degree.
- 15+ years of experience in clinical research with senior leadership experience in a CRO and/or biotech/pharma.
- Demonstrated P&L ownership or significant budget management experience.
- Strong client-facing background, including proposal support and executive-level engagement.
- Broad clinical development expertise; Oncology and/or General Medicine experience preferred.
- Strategic, collaborative leader with a strong balance of scientific and commercial acumen.
Compensation for the Vice President, Head of Medical:
- $300,000-$400,000 base salary
