Job Description

The Vice President of Marketing leads the strategy and execution of all marketing, communications, and brand management efforts to drive destination awareness, visitation, and economic impact in the Richmond Region. This role is responsible for developing and implementing both short- and long-term marketing strategies, establishing performance benchmarks, and ensuring alignment with overall organizational growth objectives.

We are seeking a strategic, people-centered marketing leader who can develop high-performing leaders, build strong cross-functional relationships, and serve as a collaborative partner to the executive leadership team. The ideal candidate combines modern marketing expertise and data-driven decision-making with strong business acumen, operational discipline, innovative thinking, adaptability, and a growth mindset to help advance both the organization and destination.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the organization's marketing, communications, and brand strategy.
  • Establish strategic priorities and guide marketing investments to achieve organizational goals.
  • Utilize market intelligence, audience insights, and performance data to inform decision-making and measure results.
  • Develop and lead a high-performing team through coaching, mentorship, and talent development.
  • Build strong partnerships with community, business, tourism, and industry stakeholders.
  • Serve as the steward of the Richmond Region Tourism brand and reputation.
  • Contribute to organizational strategy and decision-making as a member of the executive leadership team.

 

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Hospitality, Tourism, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in marketing, communications, tourism, hospitality, economic development, or a related industry.
  • Experience leading leaders and developing high-performing organizations.
  • Demonstrated success creating and executing strategic marketing initiatives that achieve measurable results.
  • Strong business acumen, financial management, and budget oversight experience.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders, build partnerships, and foster collaboration across diverse groups.
  • Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and leadership skills.
  • Emotional intelligence, sound judgment, adaptability, and a growth mindset.
  • Destination marketing, tourism, or hospitality experience preferred.
  • CDME designation preferred.
