Rubicon Carbon is a next-generation carbon credit firm. Led by a world-class management team, Rubicon Carbon is an innovative platform that channels capital to unlock at-scale decarbonization projects and delivers trusted, enterprise-grade solutions for carbon credit purchases. Rubicon Carbon strives to deliver greater scale, confidence, and innovation across all facets of the carbon market, meeting the growing demand for end-to-end, high-integrity emissions reduction solutions.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Chief Science Officer, this role is a key operational and strategic leader for the business. The VP of Non-CO2 Climate Solutions will lead the firm's end-to-end strategy and market engagement across high-impact non-CO pathways (e.g., methane, HFCs, NO), from buyer education and thought leadership through to investment diligence, rigorous credit quality assessment, and portfolio management.

The ideal candidate is a recognized expert in mitigation of superpollutant emissions who is comfortable moving fluidly between subject matter areas, managing multiple workstreams simultaneously, and translating technical concepts clearly to non-specialist audiences. This role demands equal parts scientific depth, operational discipline, and communication fluency.

This is a hybrid position - candidates must be based within a one hour commute of our New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Singapore offices

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete quality assessments for emerging and innovative technology pathways, including developing evaluation frameworks, often in coordination with other subject matter experts
  • Assess quality parameters at the project level, including project design, baseline setting, additionality, leakage, permanence, monitoring plans, quantification approaches, uncertainty treatment, and delivery risk.
  • Create and lead due diligence process for investing in impactful non-CO2 projects
  • Support portfolio management by identifying technical underperformance drivers, implementation bottlenecks, issuance risks, and mitigation measures.
  • Monitor and interpret evolving carbon market integrity frameworks, including ICVCM CCP, ratings agency frameworks and criteria, and broader market expectations on project quality
  • Maintain information systems that interpret and share findings with relevant internal stakeholders
  • Engage with and maintain productive relationships with project developers and other key stakeholders
  • Self-driven capability to stay apprised of the frontier in science in various technologies and industries
  • Assist with RFP responses and provide on-call subject matter expertise as needed
  • Translate complex GHG accounting and project science into accessible materials for internal stakeholders and external audiences, including professional working groups
  • Develop thought leadership and science communications that position Rubicon Carbon as a leader in the SPE credit markets
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Experience
  • Nationally recognized expert in the market for work on non-CO2 project pathways
  • Master's degree in climate science, environmental science or engineering, corporate sustainability, or a related field; 5+ years of relevant experience preferred (minimum 3 years considered)
  • Demonstrated familiarity with the voluntary carbon market (VCM), including registry standards, project types, and integrity frameworks such as ICVCM/CCP
  • Hands-on experience conducting carbon credit project due diligence across multiple project types and jurisdictions
  • Broad subject matter fluency across decarbonization technologies; comfort operating as a generalist across these areas
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams and maintain rigorous documentation standards; experience with developing standard operating procedures is preferred
  • Strong science communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to translate technical content for non-specialist audiences in both written and verbal formats
  • Collaborative and proactive, with a track record of effective cross-functional engagement in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Attributes
  • Familiarity with GHG accounting conventions including GWP metrics, AR5/AR6 frameworks, and methodology evaluation
  • Experience with carbon market platforms and portfolio management tooling
