A well-capitalized commercial general contractor with an established Chicago footprint is hiring a Vice President of Construction to lead project execution and regional growth. This role sits at the executive table and is responsible for translating strategy into results across multiple project teams.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who has built teams, run complex jobs, and understands how to scale operations in a competitive Chicago construction market.

Job Details

Responsibilities
  • Lead all construction operations across the Chicago region, including superintendents, project managers, and field leadership
  • Set standards for project execution, safety, quality, and schedule performance
  • Partner closely with preconstruction, estimating, and business development to support backlog growth and win strategy
  • Provide executive oversight of multiple projects simultaneously, from precon through closeout
  • Develop and mentor senior field leaders and project executives
  • Drive accountability around cost control, forecasting, staffing plans, and risk management
  • Act as a senior presence with owners, developers, and key trade partners

Background
  • 15+ years of progressive construction experience with a commercial GC or CM
  • Prior experience as a VP, Director of Construction, Project Executive, or Senior Operations leader
  • Track record overseeing large-scale commercial projects (ground-up and/or complex renovations)
  • Strong understanding of self-perform vs. subcontracted work in the Chicago labor market
  • Proven ability to build teams, retain talent, and develop future leaders
  • Comfortable operating at both the executive and field levels

Projects & Markets
  • Commercial, healthcare, industrial, institutional, and mixed-use projects
  • Typical project sizes ranging from mid-seven figures to $100M+
  • Core work focused throughout the Chicagoland market
