    Job Description

The Vice President of Marketing and Communications is the organization’s senior leader for brand, strategic communications, marketing, and storytelling. This position ensures the work, value, and impact of MIBOR REALTOR® Association, the Broker Listing Cooperative®, and the MIBOR REALTOR® Foundation are understood, valued, and consistently communicated to the audiences each serves.

As a member of the Management Team, the VPMC brings a communications and audience perspective to organizational strategy from the beginning, asking the questions necessary to understand what we are doing, why it matters, who needs to know, and how best to tell the story.

The VPMC leads an integrated marketing and communications strategy and team to strengthen engagement, awareness, trust, and understanding of the distinct value of each of the organization’s three brands.

     Specific Responsibilities:

    • Serves as a strategic member of the Management Team, bringing brand, audience, reputation, and communications perspectives to enterprise decision-making and helping shape how organizational strategy is understood and experienced by members, subscribers, community partners, and other stakeholders.
    • Provides strategic stewardship of the MIBOR REALTOR® Association, Broker Listing Cooperative®, and MIBOR REALTOR® Foundation brands, ensuring each maintains a clear and distinct value proposition while strengthening the collective reputation and impact of the enterprise.
    • Actively identifies stories and communications opportunities across the organization, developing a deep understanding of initiatives, products, programs, research, advocacy, community impact, and organizational change and translating complex work into compelling stories for the audiences we serve.
    • Proactively identifies the audiences, channels, partnerships, media opportunities, and creative approaches that will extend the reach and impact of organizational stories and messages.
    • Develops and executes integrated marketing, communications, public relations, and audience engagement strategies aligned with organizational priorities and business goals.
    • Cultivates and manages media relationships and serves as the lead point of contact for media interactions, identifying opportunities to strengthen awareness of MIBOR, the BLC®, the Foundation, REALTORS®, market conditions, property rights, and real estate and community issues.
    • Prepares and supports executives, volunteer leaders, and members for media and public speaking opportunities, including talking points, speeches, presentations, and other executive communications.
    • Anticipates emerging organizational, industry, and reputational issues and develops appropriate communications strategies and responses.
    • Leads member and stakeholder communications across the organization, ensuring content is timely, relevant, audience-focused, and consistent with the appropriate brand and value proposition.
    • Develops strategies to strengthen the public understanding and reputation of REALTORS® and the organization’s three brands through public relations, storytelling, marketing, and community visibility.
    • Leads, develops, and supports the Marketing and Communications team and other assigned staff, including the Professional Development Program Manager and Division Liaison, establishing clear expectations, accountability, collaboration, and opportunities for professional growth.
    • Provides executive leadership and oversight for assigned organizational programs and functions, including professional development, member engagement through MIBOR Divisions, and the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy and appropriate support.
    • Plays an active role in developing, executing, and communicating the organization’s strategic plans and major organizational initiatives.
    • Develops and manages the annual Marketing and Communications budget, establishes meaningful performance measures, and evaluates the effectiveness and reach of communications and marketing strategies.
    • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
    • Leads special projects and other responsibilities as assigned by the CEO.

    Competencies:

    • Exceptional storyteller with the ability to find the compelling story within complex organizational work
    • Strategic thinker who connects communications strategy to organizational strategy and business objectives
    • Naturally curious; asks thoughtful questions and seeks context before developing communications
    • Strong brand strategist with the ability to manage and differentiate multiple related brands
    • Demonstrated ability to lead communications through organizational change, complex issues, and periods of transition
    • Exceptional written, verbal, presentation, and executive communications skills
    • Strong people leader who develops talent, establishes clear expectations, delegates effectively, and holds the team accountable for results
    • Proactive and opportunity-minded; continually looks beyond existing channels for new ways to reach and engage audiences
    • Able to translate technology, market issues, research, policy, and other complex subjects into clear, relevant communications
    • Sound judgment and discretion in managing sensitive, reputational, and high-visibility communications
    • Collaborative executive who builds strong working relationships across departments rather than operating Marketing and Communications as an internal service desk
    • Comfortable moving between strategic leadership and hands-on execution when circumstances require it
    • College degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant marketing and communications experience
    • Five or more years of progressively responsible marketing and communications experience, including demonstrated leadership responsibility
