Vice President of Preconstruction – Commercial Construction

A well-established commercial general contractor is seeking an experienced Vice President of Preconstruction to lead its estimating and preconstruction operations. This executive role will oversee project pursuits, budgeting, value engineering, risk analysis, and team development.

The ideal candidate is a strategic leader with extensive commercial construction experience, strong industry relationships, and a history of delivering accurate budgets and successful project strategies.

Responsibilities

• Lead the estimating and preconstruction departments
• Oversee conceptual estimates, detailed budgets, GMP development, and bid preparation
• Develop preconstruction strategies that support company growth and profitability
• Lead value engineering, constructability reviews, and project risk analysis
• Establish estimating standards, procedures, and cost databases
• Collaborate with operations, business development, and executive leadership
• Build relationships with owners, architects, engineers, developers, and trade partners
• Support project interviews, contract negotiations, and turnover to operations
• Recruit, mentor, and develop estimating and preconstruction professionals
• Monitor labor availability, material pricing, and market trends

Qualifications

• 15+ years of commercial construction experience
• 7+ years of estimating or preconstruction leadership experience
• Experience leading preconstruction for large and complex commercial projects
• Strong knowledge of conceptual estimating, GMP development, budgeting, and value engineering
• Experience with negotiated, design-build, CMAR, and hard-bid projects
• Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and client-development skills
• Proficiency with estimating software, Bluebeam, Excel, and construction technology
• Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related degree preferred

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $180,000–$250,000
