THE OPPORTUNITY:
  • Virtana is seeking a Vice President of Solutions Engineering to lead and transform our global Solutions Engineering organization. This executive will be responsible for building a scalable, high-performing technical pre-sales function that drives revenue growth, improves sales productivity, and strengthens alignment between customers, the field, Product, Engineering, and Marketing
  • This role is not simply about managing a team of Sales Engineers. We are looking for a leader who can establish operational rigor, elevate technical selling capabilities, improve organizational design, and create repeatable processes that scale with the business. The ideal candidate will bring experience from a leading observability, infrastructure software, or enterprise SaaS organization and have a proven track record of building high-performing technical field teams
  • Reporting directly to executive leadership, this individual will play a critical role in shaping Virtana's go-to-market strategy, improving technical sales execution, and ensuring the Solutions Engineering organization serves as a strategic growth lever for the business
 
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Build and Scale the Solutions Engineering Organization
  • Lead and develop Virtana's global Solutions Engineering organization
  • Assess current team capabilities and implement organizational design, role specialization, hiring, and talent development strategies aligned to future growth objectives
  • Define optimal sales-to-SE coverage models, capacity planning, and organizational structure to support company growth
  • Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, customer outcomes, technical excellence, and business impact
Drive Technical Sales Excellence
  • Define and operationalize the end-to-end technical sales process, including technical qualification, demonstrations, proof-of-concepts, solution architecture, and deal governance
  • Establish clear operating rhythms, best practices, and accountability mechanisms to improve consistency and execution across the field
  • Partner closely with Sales leadership to improve technical win rates, increase sales productivity, reduce deal risk, and support achievement of company bookings objectives
  • Improve forecast confidence through stronger technical validation and deal inspection processes
Elevate Enablement and Technical Selling
  • Build a world-class enablement framework focused on technical selling, business value articulation, competitive positioning, and product expertise
  • Create scalable mechanisms for knowledge sharing, skills development, and programmatic transfer of expertise across the organization
  • Reduce dependency on individual subject matter experts by institutionalizing best practices and execution standards
Own Demo Strategy and Technical Storytelling
  • Define and evolve Virtana's demo strategy to align with target personas, priority use cases, and measurable business outcomes
  • Establish scalable processes for demo development, maintenance, and field adoption
  • Ensure technical messaging and demonstrations consistently reinforce Virtana's differentiation and value proposition
Strengthen Product and Market Alignment
  • Serve as the voice of the field to Product and Engineering
  • Establish structured feedback mechanisms that translate customer requirements, deployment challenges, competitive intelligence, and market trends into actionable product and go-to-market improvements
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Customer Success to improve product-market alignment and accelerate adoption of new capabilities
Establish Operational Excellence
  • Define and manage key performance metrics for the Solutions Engineering organization, including productivity, utilization, technical win rates, POC conversion, capacity planning, and enablement effectiveness
  • Build reporting, inspection, and continuous improvement mechanisms that ensure the organization scales efficiently as the business grows
 
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
  • At least 10+ years of experience in enterprise software pre-sales, solutions engineering, sales engineering, or related leadership roles
  • Experience leading and scaling Solutions Engineering organizations within observability, infrastructure software, cloud operations, AIOps, performance management, or adjacent enterprise SaaS markets
  • Experience from leading observability and infrastructure software organizations such as Datadog, Dynatrace, Splunk, Elastic, New Relic, Cisco, AppDynamics, or similar companies strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated success building and developing high-performing technical teams
  • Strong understanding of enterprise sales processes, technical validation methodologies, proof-of-concept execution, and complex enterprise buying cycles
  • Proven ability to drive organizational change, operational improvement, and cross-functional alignment
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and executive presentation skills
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
