JOB DESCRIPTION – Victim Service Advocate
 
A Knock at Midnight (AKAM) is a non-profit community-based organization who provides street outreach services in the Englewood neighborhood in Chicago.   AKAM's mission is to collaborate and build linkages with schools, churches, nonprofits, and government
institutions.  Collaborations are developed to provide prevention services for residents.   
 
Job Description:
Reports to: Program Coordinator
FTE: Full Time (1.0)
Hours: 9:00 pm - 5:30 Monday thru Friday  
 
The Victim Service Advocate will respond to violent incidents in the Englewood community.  Responses could include visits to crime incidents, a victim’s home, hospital etc. Responses could be in-person or by phone depending on the circumstance. The Victim Service Advocate will be responsible for providing immediate support and advocacy for individuals or families impacted by violence.   
 
Qualifications of Victim Service Advocate

       Excellent communication skills 
       Excellent listening skills 
       Relates well to and works well with in a collaborative fast paced work environment
       Passion for helping others
       Excellent interpersonal skills 
       Ability to solve problems, make decisions, and critically think through a plan, use data to guide work
 
Roles and Responsibilities:

       Connect individuals and/or families to mental health services

       Provide trauma-informed services for youth

       Provide employment support

       Support families in their interactions with police and/or receive case updates

       Complete intake forms for participants to receive victim services

       Accompany participants to court, where applicable

       Help families plan funerals, where applicable

       Help individuals/families navigate agencies/organizations to receive resources and services
