Description

Who We Are

Unruled Masses is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public-interest intelligence organization focused on exposing corruption, abuse of power, and systemic exploitation—while helping communities peacefully reclaim agency, accountability, and civic life.

We combine rigorous intelligence tradecraft with public-facing analysis, community education, and real-world civic action. Our work is published globally and shared through reports, newsletters, social media, and live and recorded webcasts. But our mission goes beyond exposure: we aim to help people reconnect, organize, and act together—grounded in facts, not fear.

Who You Are

You are creative, disciplined, and motivated by truth, accountability, and public impact. You care deeply about fighting corruption and abuse of power, and you understand the power of video to inform, engage, and mobilize people responsibly.

You are comfortable working independently on creative production, but you value close collaboration with researchers, action coordinators, and communications staff. You enjoy translating complex, research-driven material into compelling visual narratives that people can understand and act on.

You may come from video production, documentary storytelling, digital media, journalism, marketing, or creative arts—or you may be building experience in these areas and seeking meaningful, real-world application of your skills.

You believe good information deserves good storytelling.

What You'll Do

As a Video Content Creator, you will:

  • Collaborate with researchers and action coordinators to develop video concepts that accurately reflect investigations, reports, and civic campaigns.
  • Help shape story ideas, narratives, and messaging for short-form and long-form video content.
  • Develop storyboards, scripts, and creative briefs for video projects.
  • Source video footage, imagery, graphics, and other visual assets from ethical and appropriate sources.
  • Create original visual and graphical assets to support video storytelling.
  • Edit video content into polished, publish-ready pieces for social media, webcasts, and digital platforms.
  • Support video production for live and recorded broadcasts, campaigns, and community actions.
  • Ensure all video content aligns with Unruled Masses' standards for accuracy, nonviolence, and public-interest integrity.

Exceptional Volunteers May:

  • Lead video production for major investigations or campaigns
  • Help define UM's video storytelling style and formats
  • Develop recurring video series or explainers
  • Mentor newer video or creative volunteers
  • Collaborate on cross-platform storytelling initiatives

Ideal Qualifications

  • Experience creating and editing video content for social, digital, or marketing channels
  • Familiarity with video editing tools and basic motion or graphic design workflows
  • Strong storytelling instincts and ability to translate complex information into clear narratives
  • Comfort sourcing footage, graphics, and assets responsibly
  • Ability to collaborate across research, action, and communications teams
  • Comfortable working remotely with structured workflows and deadlines
  • Experience with advocacy, journalism, nonprofit, or mission-driven content is a plus

Compensation & Commitment

This is an unpaid volunteer role. We are flexible on time commitments, but ask for at least 2–3 hours per week for production-level participation. As funding allows, paid positions may be offered in the future.
