Job Title: Video Production Lead Grip (Part Time)
Location: Hybrid in Boston, MA
Duration: Contract - Indefinitely on an as needed basis

Position Overview:
The Video Production Lead Grip position is a part-time opportunity for someone who is already working in the video industry or adjacent career in a free-lance capacity. This position is for occasional on-site work (8-40 hours a month) when our in-house video team needs assistance with video production. This position would spend the majority of its time on set, working with the team in a number of roles from directing/technical directing, operating cameras, lighting, audio and troubleshooting live technical issues in the moment. The ideal candidate is calm under pressure, technically fluent across the full production stack, and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities
1. Studio Production

• Work with on-camera talent during studio recordings, guiding pacing, delivery, and blocking to achieve high-quality video.
• Direct or technical direct live and recorded productions from the control room, calling shots and switching sources on a Blackmagic Design switcher.
• Operate ProPresenter to cue graphics in-sync with production flow.
• Operate Blackmagic studio cameras and Sony A7/FX6 cameras, framing shots and adjusting exposure, focus, and white balance.
• Set up, monitor, and mix studio audio, including lavalier and boom microphones, ensuring clean, broadcast-quality sound.

Troubleshooting & Studio Readiness:

• Diagnose and resolve technical issues with cameras, audio, lighting, control room gear, graphics, and signal flow in real time.
• Perform pre-production checks and post-production strike, returning the studio to its base state after every use.
• Maintain and organize studio equipment, cabling, and expendables to ensure the studio is always shoot-ready.

2. External / On-Location Recordings

• Set up and run camera, lighting, and audio packages on location for interviews, event coverage, and marketing shoots.
• Design and execute lighting setups appropriate to the environment, talent, and creative direction.
• Prepare, pack, transport, and load-in field equipment; manage cases, expendables, and power on site.
• Capture supplemental B-roll and event photography as needed to support internal and external deliverables.
• Collaborate on location with producers, social media, events, and marketing partners; available for evening and occasional off-hours work as production demands.

3. Production Support & Post-Production (limited)

• Offload, organize, rename, and prep media for editorial handoff.
• Assist with light editing tasks in Adobe Premiere (trimming, exports).

Qualifications and Skills

• Demonstrated experience directing and/or technical directing multi-camera studio productions.
• Hands-on proficiency with Blackmagic Design switchers and studio cameras.
• Hands-on proficiency with Sony cameras, including the FX6 and A7 series.
• Solid working knowledge of professional audio capture and mixing (lavalier, boom, wireless systems).
• Practical lighting skills for both studio and on-location environments.
• Proficient with ProPresenter for live cueing of graphics and playback.
• Working knowledge of Adobe Premiere for offload, organization, and light editing.
• Strong troubleshooting instincts; stays composed and solutions-focused under live production pressure.
• Excellent organization, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Flexibility to work evenings and travel to external shoot locations as needed.
