About the Role
AVIAN is seeking a Videographer to support a variety of public affairs products for our DoD customer in Dahlgren, VA. The Videographer will be responsible for capturing, editing, and producing high-quality video content that effectively communicates key messages to diverse audiences. You will join AVIAN’s cadre of creative professionals who specialize in strategic communication, graphic design, marketing, multimedia production and more. Our creative team supports each other through constructive peer reviews, shares professional resources and regularly gathers for continuing education sessions.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities
- Provide support for approximately sixteen (16) videotaped events annually.
- Produce and edit national broadcast-quality as well as DVD-quality level videos for the organization, including documentaries, human-interest features, news minutes, commercials, sizzle reels, narratives, short-form social media videos, and other promotional and advanced storytelling content.
- Design and produce national industry-level motion design graphics and illustrations for a variety of video products, including commercials, sizzle reels, social media, films, documentaries, and other promotional and storytelling products.
- Collaborate with public affairs, communications, and creative teams to develop engaging visual narratives aligned with organizational goals.
- Operate and maintain professional video, lighting, and audio equipment.
- Ensure all video content adheres to brand guidelines, messaging objectives, and accessibility standards.
- Assist in scripting, storyboarding, and conceptualizing video projects to enhance storytelling impact.
- Manage post-production tasks, including video editing, color correction, sound design, and motion graphics.
- Optimize video content for various digital platforms, ensuring effective distribution and audience engagement.
- Stay updated on industry trends, emerging video technologies, and best practices in public affairs communication.
- Maintain organized archives of video assets and project files for future use.

Experience Requirements:
- Experience in organizing, writing, storyboarding, shooting, editing, lighting, and producing audiovisual projects, podcasts, and slideshows with sound accompaniments.
- Knowledge of the equipment, techniques, and processes of photography, lighting techniques, and digital reproduction techniques.
- Experience with setup and application of live audio systems and considerations during in-person events.
- Requires a working knowledge of Nonlinear Editing Systems, Adobe Creative Cloud Production Premium, Microsoft Office Professional, AVS Video Converter, and Snagit10 screen capture software.
- Experience working in public affairs, government, or nonprofit sectors is a plus.
- Familiarity with accessibility guidelines for video content (e.g., captioning and audio descriptions) is preferred.
- Knowledge of social media video trends and optimization techniques is a plus.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in fine arts, communications, graphic design, or animation.
- Allowable Substitution: Three (3) years of related experience.
Additional Requirements:
- Local travel required
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance.
- Due to the sensitivity of customer-related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Salary range: $63,000 - $68,000 (The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.)
