ABOUT WVL
Wisconsin Virtual Learning is a K4-12 online public charter school chartered through the Northern Ozaukee School District, serving students across the state. We are a non-instrumentality charter school, which means our staff is employed by WVL rather than by the district. Our students learn from home on a school-provided laptop, and our staff works from home too, but this is not a hands-off program. We combine coursework with real human connection, and we stay close to our kids and families along the way. We are a small, tight-knit staff that leans on each other and cares a lot about doing right by every learner.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a high school English teacher who can bring literature and writing to life on a screen and keep students engaged when they are not sitting in a physical classroom. You will teach the full range of our high school English courses, run interventions for students who need extra support, and keep in steady contact with students and parents. If you love your subject and you are the kind of person who reaches out before a student falls through the cracks, you will fit in well here.
WHAT YOU''LL TEACH
You will provide live virtual instruction twice a week in each of these courses, and maintain the online lessons that go with them:
INTERVENTION (RTI)
Administer an initial screener to all ninth-grade students to identify students who need reading and writing support.
Lead RtI English sessions, including assessments and targeted interventions.
Add individual or small-group meetings for identified students as needed during the school day or office hours.
COMMUNICATION AND STUDENT SUPPORT
Stay in regular contact with students and families by virtual meeting, email, and phone.
Reach out to students who have disengaged or fallen behind, and challenge those who are doing well.
Grade students'' work and keep the online course current, clear, and welcoming.
BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
Option to run at least one student club that meets monthly during the school year.
Take part in weekly or monthly staff and team meetings, and follow through on shared work.
SCHEDULE
This is a full-time position. In addition to live classes and intervention time, you will hold office hours per week. Your remaining prep time is yours to manage: responding to families, preparing lessons, checking in with students, grading, and completing team projects.
