Location: Caledonia High School

Reports To: Building Principal/Assistant Principal

Compensation: Per CEA Bargaining Unit Agreement

Summary of Position:

The Virtual Learning Teacher/Coordinator supervises and supports students enrolled in virtual coursework work and students participating in course recovery. This is a onsite position and students in this program are required to attend school in-person on scheduled days. The teacher is responsible for creating a positive learning climate with a focus on student growth and achievement.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise students participating in virtual learning courses during assigned periods.
  • Monitor student attendance, participation, pacing, and academic progress in online coursework.
  • Provide academic support, encouragement, and accountability to help students successfully complete courses.
  • Ensure students are engaged in the virtual learning process and meeting course completion and graduation requirements.
  • Create a safe and supportive learning environment for all students
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents/guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators regarding student progress and concerns.
  • Assist students with navigating online learning platforms and resolving basic technology issues.
  • Collaborate with counselors and administrators to identify students appropriate for credit recovery or virtual coursework.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress.
  • Support students in developing organizational, time management, and independent learning skills.
  • Ensure compliance with district policies, academic integrity expectations, and acceptable technology use guidelines.
  • Assist administration with monitoring graduation requirements and student credit completion.
  • Establish appropriate classroom rules and procedures as directed by the building principal
  • Participate in meetings, professional development activities, and district initiatives related to virtual learning and student support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administration.

Certification:

  • Michigan Teacher Certification, 9-12th grade required.
  • Endorsement: Endorsement in a core academic subject.

Other Duties:

  • Effectively communicate with parents on a regular basis via phone or email.
  • Participate and parent meetings, IEPs, and Parent-Teacher Conferences.
  • Attend staff, committee, grade-level, department meetings, and others as assigned by the principal.
  • Collaboratively work with colleagues and as part of a team.
  • Promote the vision and mission of Caledonia Community Schools in a positive manner at all times.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear (in a quiet or noisy environment). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust/focus.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate. Work is performed indoors although there will be required outdoor activities. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.
