The Azure Virtual Desktop Engineer supports the build operation and ongoing improvement of Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments. This role focuses on hands‑on engineering, operational stability, automation, and user experience, working under established architecture and standards. The ideal candidate has solid experience with Azure Windows desktop virtualization and endpoint management and is ready to grow deeper expertise in large‑scale enterprise AVD platforms.
Core Responsibilities
- Designs, implements, and deploys platforms to support and meet business needs.
- Identifies, recommends, and implements opportunities for improvement and performance issue solutions.
- Develops technical standards.
- Tests and evaluates technologies and vendor products.
- Recommends vendor selections and new technologies.
- Deploys, configures, and supports Azure Virtual Desktop host pools, session hosts, application groups, and workspaces.
- Performs day‑to‑day platform administration, including scaling activities, host maintenance, and service health checks.
- Supports gold image creation and maintenance using existing image pipelines and Shared Image Gallery.
- Supports FSLogix profile containers, including configuration, performance troubleshooting, and storage access issues.
- Participates in improving repeatability, reliability, and documentation of deployment processes.
- Monitors AVD health, performance, and capacity using dashboards and Azure monitoring tools.
- Works closely with senior engineers, architects, and cross‑functional teams (networking, security, endpoint, service desk).
- Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
- Undergraduate degree in a related field or the equivalent combination of training and experience.
- 5 years of experience supporting Windows desktop and Virtualization Platforms required.
- Hands‑on experience with Azure Virtual Desktop or comparable virtual desktop technologies required.
- Working knowledge of Azure fundamentals (compute, networking, storage) required.
- Experience with FSLogix profile management.
- Experience using Microsoft Intune and/or Group Policy preferred.
- Familiarity with Entra ID (Azure AD), RBAC, and MFA concepts preferred.
- Basic experience with automation tools (PowerShell, Terraform, or similar) required.
- Strong troubleshooting and operational support skills required.
