Description:

The Department of Transformative Leadership, Counseling, and Innovation at the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor in its CACREP-accredited Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) program. The successful candidate will contribute to the development and growth of the counseling program, teach graduate counseling courses, and provide service to the program, university, and profession. This position will be for Spring 2027 and may be renewed based on program need. The Visiting Assistant Professor may apply for a tenure-track position if one is advertised and the required qualifications are met.

Duties:

• Teach graduate courses across the counseling curriculum, with particular emphasis on clinical mental health counseling
• Contribute to curriculum development and accreditation data collection and documentation
• Provide clinical supervision to practicum and internship students
• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community agencies and clinical partners
• Maintain an active counselor educator identity through professional engagement, practice, scholarship, service, and advocacy, as appropriate to the faculty role
• Participate in college activities and serve on program or college committees
• Participate in program, college, university, and professional service activities

Qualifications

Required:

• An earned doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program
• Evidence of a counselor and counselor educator identity through sustained professional engagement in at least two of the following areas: counseling-related professional development and renewal; professional service and advocacy; ongoing counseling practice; or research and scholarly activity commensurate with the faculty role
• Texas LPC licensure or eligibility for Texas LPC licensure
• Excellent communication skills

Preferred:

• Successful university teaching experience
• Evidence of or potential for scholarly activity
• Demonstrated professional or academic service
• Experience providing clinical mental health counseling
• Experience teaching clinical mental health counseling students
• Experience using a learning management system and teaching in online or hybrid formats
• Experience with CACREP accreditation processes
• Experience providing clinical supervision to practicum or internship students
