Job Summary

The School of Education at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) invites applicants for a one-year full-time non-tenure track Visiting Assistant Professor position beginning in August 2026, with requirements to be physically present on the Hattiesburg and/or Gulf Coast campuses.

The Elementary Education faculty currently provide training to initial and advanced teaching licensure candidates in Elementary Education, including students in our Teacher Assistant program. We are especially interested in candidates whose experience includes bridging research and practice in:

  • P-12 elementary education
  • Literacy and/or mathematics education
  • Special education
  • Culturally inclusive education
  • Assessment
  • Clinical supervision

We aim to recruit applicants with a background in Curriculum and Instruction who will support the School of Educations Elementary Education programs, including a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and a Masters of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction (Elementary Education). Program delivery includes face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teaching and mentoring students.
  • Supervising elementary and special education clinical experiences.
  • Demonstrating an understanding of cultural competence.
  • Contributing to the mission of the school and profession through service activities.
  • Collaborating with colleagues on program development and enhancement.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
