    Job Description

    The College of Liberal Arts is seeking a Visiting Assistant Professor of Political Science in American Politics to begin in Fall 2027. The successful candidate will show excellent and enthusiastic teaching skills and demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment. Course assignments will be undergraduate courses across the Political Science curriculum. Teaching assignments may include classroom (face-to-face), hybrid, and online classes with various class sizes. Candidates should be prepared to teach core curriculum requirements such as American government and state and local government (emphasis on Texas). In addition, candidates will contribute to the teaching needs of the Political Science major including courses such as introduction to political science, Mexican American politics, research methods, and the senior capstone. The normal teaching load will be 4-4.

    The Department of Social Sciences (DSOC) is a multi-disciplinary department in the College of Liberal Arts that offers undergraduate degrees in Political Science and Criminal Justice and the graduate degree of Master of Public Administration. Through its contribution to the core curriculum, Political Science is one of the largest generators of student credit hours for the university. The Criminal Justice program is one of the largest undergraduate majors on campus. The MPA program is the second largest graduate program in the College of Liberal Arts. DSOC faculty are leaders on campus, in the community, and in their disciplines.     Required Qualifications:

    • Doctoral degree in Political Science or a closely related discipline from an accredited university. Advanced ABD will be considered; degree must be conferred at the time of appointment. 

    • Ability to teach courses in the Political Science program (including American government, state/Texas and local government, introduction to political science, research methods, and senior capstone). 

    • Ability to teach in a variety of formats and class sizes to include classroom, hybrid, and online courses.

    • Commitment to excellence in teaching and student mentoring.
