Visiting Lecturers are non-tenure-track faculty who hold an appointment with an RIT academic department/unit. Visiting Lecturers are typically hired to fill a permanent position for a limited period of time, usually not to exceed three years, while a search is being conducted for an open position or a permanent faculty member is on an approved leave of absence. For positions approved by the provost as difficult to fill, this period may be extended to an absolute maximum of five years. Visiting Lecturers will teach classes, advise/mentor students as assigned, and may engage in department/college service activities.Position DescriptionThe School of Design in the College of Art and Design seeks a Visiting Lecturer for the Interior Design program. RITs undergraduate Interior Design BFA degree is a multi-faceted program of study offering a comprehensive exploration of the architectural interior. Our curriculum synthesizes the theoretical constructs of design history with the technical requirements of space planning, building structure, sustainable systems, and design process to create inspiring, purposeful interior environments. The program, accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), features dedicated studio and lecture spaces, a physical and digital materials library and direct access to workshops, state of the art computer, VR and 3D printing labs. The world-renowned Vignelli Center for Design Studies archives serves as an invaluable resource for understanding the process and product of design by the worlds most acclaimed designers. Our experienced, professionally certified faculty impart technical design skills in a studio culture that promotes one on one discussions, teamwork and collaboration. We mentor students with a consciousness for global affairs and todays design challenges so that they may contribute to the profession with a deep-rooted understanding of society, culture and environment. Our International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Campus Center facilitates networking with national and international industry professionals. By maximizing an array of academic and professional opportunities, our graduates are reshaping how we live in the world.Expectations include teaching undergraduate studio and lecture courses; participating in innovative teaching and curriculum development; rendering service to the school, college, university, and/or community; career advising and mentoring undergraduate students; and participating in professional organizations important to the field of interior design. Required Minimum Qualifications * MFA, MA or MS in Interior Design, Environmental Design, or an M. Arch, MS Architecture, MS or MA in Interior Architecture or related degree * NCIDQ Certified, exams in process or certification eligible preferred * Minimum 5 years of professional experience in architecture, interior design, interior architecture, industrial design or a related field * Minimum 3 years teaching experience at the Baccalaureate level * Hand drawing and computer proficiency with interior design-related software(s) * Diverse experience designing in and instructing for interior environments in a variety building typologies with applicable codes and innovative materials * Demonstrated knowledge of one or more of the following: design theory, design history, design methodology, and design practices * Demonstrated ability to develop curriculum and teach in both lecture and studio environments
