Wayfair’s Physical Retail team is seeking a Visual Communications Signage Associate to support the signage function within the Visual Communications team. The Visual Communications Signage Associate will work across the Visual Team and other cross-functional partners (e.g., Merchandising, Creative, Print Production, Project Management, Field Enablement) to support the creation & implementation of our Stores’ signage programs, standards, and field communication across our brands.
This role will support our current signage content and operational procedures including brief and project management, internal tool management, and writing brand-right content for our signage programs for the Field. The Signage Associate has cross-functional responsibility, supporting processes for store expansion and new standards. As the physical retail portfolio grows, scope of work may vary to accommodate adapting business needs.
This role is based in the Boston metro and reports to the Visual Communications Signage Manager. Frequent weekly travel to the Norton MA and Taunton MA Retail Labs (as needed), local stores (as needed), and nationally to support new store openings (as needed). National travel for seasonal Floorsets or new store openings will be planned in advance to make travel accommodations. Work from home options are available when travel is not required and it follows the current Wayfair hybrid work policy (currently on Fridays).
What You’ll Do:
Gather content and write signage briefs, and ensure all signage requests adhere to our signage strategy and brand standards. Support brief needs for Creative and production development, facilitating projects from conception to launch.
Conduct signage content artwork reviews ensuring creative artwork and production specifications are met from signage briefs needs. Work with cross-functional partners to ensure signage outputs fulfill brief requirements.
Project manage signage milestones, including brief, artwork review and field communications to ensure project deadlines are met utilizing our calendars, and Airtable tasks. Assist with signage calendars as needed.
Support physical retail signage requests by writing signage briefs for Creative and Production development, facilitating projects from conception to launch.
Lead our New Store Opening signage briefs, artwork review, special projects, training and field communications.
Support go-to-market signage briefs, artwork review and field communication for quarterly seasonal floorsets.
Gather and write visual field communication including SOP’s, directive updates, training materials, signage standards, and weekly communication updates across print and digital signage kits.
Partner with Visual Comms. Content & Design teams for content alignment, production support, voice and brand guidelines for each type of visual communication to ensure that direction is easy to understand, efficient to execute and fun to read for the associate.
Manage our internal signage libraries, tool refinements, and overall template and content maintenance. Support internal library transitions to new platforms as we scale. Ideate and evolve tools as needed.
Execute signage field photo reviews leaving actionable feedback for Store Visual teams on signage on-site execution.
Conduct new store opening signage trainings
Challenge existing workflows with new innovative ideas.
Own weekly touchpoints with Visual teams to support signage workflows.
Socialize in-store signage programs building awareness and exposure of new signage processes and assets to cross-functional partners.
Support in-store seasonal floorsets, site surveys, and new store openings as needed.
Research new opportunities, data, and consumer insights to evolve the approach to in-store signage ensuring it maps to the customer journey, increases consideration, drives conversion, and leverages relevant technology.
What You’ll Need/Who You are:
We are looking for creative, retail-forward communication experts with strong project management and experience owning and supporting major business initiatives. This person has either field or corporate signage or in-store marketing or visual merchandising experience with strong critical thinking, a solution driven work approach, and is able effectively drive solutions and new ideas across their work.
1+ years of field retail experience preferred, with a solid grasp of store-level operations.
1+ years of corporate retail experience preferred, specifically within in-store signage, visual marketing, or visual merchandising.
1+ years of professional content writing experience, ideally within a retail or brand communications context.
Understanding of visual merchandising principles and their direct impact on the store experience.
Strong business acumen within the brick-and-mortar retail ecosystem.
Proven project management skills, with the ability to navigate competing priorities and strict deadlines effectively.
Exceptional organizational skills, with a track record of managing multiple, complex streams of work simultaneously.
Superior verbal and written communication skills, with a talent for translating complex directives into clear, actionable guidance.
Collaborative mindset, adept at partnering across cross-functional teams to drive shared objectives.
High adaptability to organizational change within a complex, fast-moving business structure.
Critical thinker who proactively identifies opportunities to evolve and challenge existing store processes and standards.
Agility to thrive in a high-growth, ambiguous environment while maintaining a focus on key deliverables.
Dedicated visual merchandising contributor with strong professional integrity and a confident approach to execution.
Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and SketchUp preferred.
Aptitude for learning and mastering new software platforms for 3D development and project management.
Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, technology-driven business environment.
AI/automation-forward mindset, with the ability to define and implement practical use cases that streamline daily workflows.
Ability to travel locally and nationally to support store openings, site surveys, and seasonal floorsets (approx. 5-15% or as needed)
