About the Agency

The Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services (MDRS) is a state agency dedicated to helping Mississippians with disabilities to live and work independently. MDRS serves through four major programs: Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), Vocational Rehabilitation for the Blind (VRB), Office of Special Disability Programs (OSDP), and Disability Determination Services (DDS). Services also include support through Assistive Technology, the Office of Business Development and much more. It is the mission of MDRS to provide appropriate and comprehensive services in a timely and effective manner. Programs and services assist individuals with disabilities to gain employment, retain employment, and to live independently. About the Position

This position is with the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation within the Community Rehabilitation Program - AbilityWorks. The duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Ensures adherence to production schedules to guarantee that products are completed in accordance with time frames outlined in contracts. Monitors quality control of goods produced in workshop to ensure that product specifications prescribed in contracts are met and to maintain the integrity of workshop operations. Inspects and performs routine maintenance and repairs to the facility and agency vehicles as required. Examines equipment to ensure proper functioning and operation in accordance with safety standards. Inventories supplies, equipment, and goods produced to ensure proper accounting and handling of same. Completes all required management reports. Prepares purchase orders and requisitions for materials, supplies, and equipment. Supervises the work of subordinate personnel through the assignment and review of work and the training of new and current employees. Performs other duties as assigned.

To be successful in this position you will need to be highly organized, pay close attention to detail and be able to meet deadlines. The ability to work with minimal supervision by identifying issues and solving problems as they arise in a professional and respectful manner. Supervision at this level also requires excellent interpersonal skills and the knowledge and skills to perform and review the work overseen

Preferred Qualifications

Typically requires a High School Diploma or high school equivalency and 3-4 years of relevant experience and/or relevant certifications/licenses. Hiring agency prefers: A High School Diploma or high school equivalency and 3-4 years of experience directly related to the above described duties.

Paid Personal Leave and Sick Leave

Full-time employees receive paid time off for personal needs and for sick leave. Leave begins accruing after one month of employment and may be used as it is accrued. Employees earn approximately 18 days of personal leave annually and 12 days of sick leave annually.

In accordance with federal law, all employees serving in the armed forces or the military reserves are entitled to 15 days per year for military training.
