Piano / Keyboard / Voice Instructor & Band Coach

Soundcheck Rock Academy – Howard County, MD

With great and unprecedented growth comes incredible opportunity.

Do you believe learning music should be inspiring, energetic, and life-changing?
Are you the kind of person who celebrates student breakthroughs with high-fives and encouragement?

If you're a classically trained pianist, keyboardist, or voice instructor who loves mentoring the next generation of musicians, we want to meet you.

Soundcheck Rock Academy is a fast-growing, performance-based music school located in the heart of Howard County. Our students don’t just take lessons — they play in bands, perform on stage, and build confidence through music.

We are currently seeking two exceptional instructors who want to inspire students, collaborate with a great team, and help shape the musical future of our community.

If you love music, teaching, mentoring, and seeing students grow — this is an amazing opportunity.

What You'll Do

As a Soundcheck instructor, you’ll do more than teach lessons — you’ll mentor musicians and help build a vibrant music community.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching piano, keyboard, and/or voice lessons in private or semi-private formats

  • Mentoring students of all ages — children, teens, and adults

  • Using established curriculum and method books to guide student progress

  • Teaching music theory, technique, and musicianship in an engaging way

  • Coaching students to play confidently and expressively

  • Directing small groups and rock bands performing cover and original music

  • Preparing students for performances, recordings, and showcases

  • Collaborating with the Music Director and team to place students in bands

  • Communicating with parents about student progress and goals

  • Maintaining lesson notes and records in our music management software

  • Supporting school events, performances, and rehearsals

  • Assisting with studio setup, equipment, and maintaining clean teaching spaces

  • Helping create a welcoming and positive studio environment for students and families

What We're Looking For

Our best instructors are musicians, mentors, and motivators.

Qualifications include:

  • Strong proficiency in piano/keyboard and/or voice instruction

  • Ability to teach music theory and technique clearly to students of all ages

  • Multi-instrumentalists strongly preferred

  • Ability to read music and communicate musical concepts effectively

  • Experience teaching or mentoring students

  • Comfortable directing small ensembles or bands

  • Ability to operate basic sound equipment

  • Strong communication skills with students, parents, and staff

  • Ability to accept feedback and continually improve teaching methods

  • Excellent organization and time management

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, energetic studio environment

  • Must be physically present for scheduled lessons

  • Ability to pass a background check

  • Proficiency in English (additional languages are a plus)

Physical Requirements

Instructors should be able to assist with typical studio activities including:

  • Moving or lifting musical equipment such as keyboards, amplifiers, and recording gear

  • Setting up equipment for rehearsals and performances

  • Moving light furniture and studio materials when needed

Why Work at Soundcheck Rock Academy?

This is more than a teaching job — it’s a chance to build musicians, confidence, and community through music.

Our instructors enjoy:

  • A fun, high-energy teaching environment

  • The opportunity to mentor the next generation of musicians

  • Performance-based teaching with bands, concerts, and showcases

  • A collaborative team of passionate musicians

  • The chance to make a real impact in students’ lives

At Soundcheck, we celebrate progress, creativity, and community — and yes, we give a lot of high-fives.
