Ritter Center is currently recruiting a Volunteer Coordinator & Market Aide for Full Basket Community Market Team. This full-time, non-exempt position reports to the Community Market and Facilities Manager based in San Rafael, CA; the role operates out of our main Campus.

The Volunteer Coordinator & Market Aide is role that supports volunteer needs throughout Ritter Center, develops a unique Marin County farms gleaning program, and supports the daily operations of our Full Basket Community Market.

The Volunteer Coordinator will oversee the fulfillment of various volunteer roles in the Market, client and donor events, and farm gleaning activities. A new project will be to help develop and maintain farmer relationships for local product donations, volunteers for gleaning, and food distribution. Community education about the role of our Market as a neighborhood food source and the availability of local products will be supported by this position. The role will help monitor and evaluate the gleaned foods quantity and quality, as well as ensure the sustainability of this program.

This role also supports day-to-day market operations and administration; maintains inventory; coordinates client intake and communications; trains and works alongside market and event volunteers; develops and maintains community partnerships; ensures data accuracy and compliance; supports the Assistant Market Manager with implementation of client events. This position assists with all aspects of food and in-kind donations, including in-take, handling, storage and distribution with professionalism and compassion. The role requires strong communication, organization, and people-centered skills to effectively recruit, support, and engage volunteers. Familiarity and demonstrated comfort with the homeless and low-income population is a plus in this role.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Volunteer Coordination

  • Develop and implement a volunteer recruitment strategy to ensure adequate volunteer staffing for all market services, gleaning, and events, in partnership with Development team
  • Professionally manage volunteers to ensure smooth service delivery by onboarding, training, mentoring and working alongside them to fulfill their roles
  • Provide supervision to volunteers, addressing any issues or concerns that arise; evaluate volunteer performance and provide feedback
  • Manage volunteer schedules and assignments to ensure efficient operations and programs
  • Manage volunteer inquiries and verify volunteer dates, maintain required volunteer documentation, and track volunteer donated hours
  • Support Assistant Market Manager with event planning and implementation in partnership with the Development team, post-event review meetings and workflow updates
  • Recognize and celebrate volunteer contributions
  • Travel to Marin farms to develop produce gleaning efforts, train volunteers and assist with produce distribution

Market Assistance

  • Greet visitors and clients, answer phones, address messages, and provide information and referrals as needed in a welcoming, professional manner
  • Check in and verify clients via multiple online platforms
  • Assist with early morning delivery and food stocking process
  • Provide excellent customer service to clients during their food selection process
  • Maintain organized and clean market and workspaces
  • Provide administrative support as requested
  • Verify and update client information in databases
  • Track weekly food donation inventory in databases
  • Accept in-kind donations and provide donor receipts as needed
  • Provide English/Spanish translation services for clients as needed, if possible
  • Manage multiple tasks while supporting clients with complex and sometimes disruptive behaviors
  • Meet with supervisor, attend staff meetings and training as scheduled
  • Adhere to the goals, objectives, and policies of Ritter Center
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Per our Federally Qualified Healthcare Center (FQHC) requirements, employment at Ritter Center requires compliance with being able to produce a negative TB test prior to the start of employment, as well as being vaccinated against COVID-19 (unless applying for an exemption) per the August 5th State Public Order for Healthcare Facilities, providers and employees.
  • Experience managing volunteers, leading teams, or coordinating groups of people preferred.
  • Experience implementing programs, projects, initiatives, or activities and working toward established goals preferred.
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain accurate records and logs
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions while responding to a high volume of client and staff requests
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills and highly accurate data entry
  • Valid CA driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Latino cultural competency
  • Bilingual verbal fluency in English/Spanish desired but not required
