Summary

The Volunteer shall assist the Hays County Health Department in supporting community outreach, public health initiatives, and event coordination. Performs a variety of administrative and community-facing tasks, gradually increasing in level of responsibility as the Volunteer receives on-the-job training related to public health programs, behavioral health initiatives, and community engagement efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with setup, coordination, and breakdown of community health events and outreach activities.
  • Supports distribution of public health materials, resources, and information to community members.
  • Assures services delivered meet quality, professionalism, and timeliness standards.
  • Enters, organizes, and tracks outreach data and event participation information.
  • Assists with organizing materials, supplies, and resource inventories.
  • Documents and files materials related to outreach, events, and programming.
  • Interacts daily with staff, community partners, and the public.
  • Assists with behavioral health and public health projects as assigned.
  • Performs a variety of duties related to community outreach strategies, health education, and program implementation while learning the mission, structure, and operations of the Health Department.
  • Supports community engagement efforts including mental health awareness, prevention programming, and health promotion initiatives.
  • Effectively utilizes standard office software (data management, spreadsheets, presentations, and word processing) in completing assigned projects.
  • May assist with logistical or administrative tasks during peak event periods.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • May attend community meetings, coalition meetings, or public health events as needed.

Education and/or Experience

  • Interest or experience in Public Health, Behavioral Health, Social Work, Psychology, or related field preferred.
  • Experience with community service, outreach, or volunteer work is a plus.
  • Experience with personal computers and basic software applications.
